1/28/2003 - Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) announced at the COMNET Conference & Expo (Booth #838) plans to ease the complexity of managing application performance with the latest release of the Vantage suite. Vantage Release 8.5 offers IT professionals a new level of information accessibility with instant reporting. Additionally, the product’s new, web-based user interface provides the ability to conveniently manage an entire enterprise from a single console. This latest release also offers application managers a more integrated suite of tools and vast enterprise-server scalability.
“IT professionals should not only evaluate tools that can drill down to the potential cause of performance problems, but should also consider the accessibility and flexibility of being able to communicate that information,” said Cameron Haight, Research Director, Gartner, Inc. “As part of an increased emphasis on IT processes, appropriate groups within organizations should be able to easily share critical data to eliminate costly finger-pointing and reduce application down time.”
“Compuware has consistently provided value to IT initiatives and efforts at Amerisure,” said Frank L. Petersmark, Vice President IT and CIO, Amerisure Mutual Insurance Company. “Vantage provided us with the ability to proactively test, monitor and adjust a critical new application before and after it went into production. Compuware provided the tools and consultative expertise to allow us to do so, greatly enhancing the overall quality of the delivered application. We look forward to the new reporting capability in Vantage 8.5.”
Customizable Web-Based User Interface
VantageView, the suite’s viewing console, has a new web-based user interface that provides the entire IT staff with an interactive environment to access client, network and server views of information. This capability enables different users to access information about the components of the application and helps eliminate the traditional walls separating IT departments. VantageView enables users to quickly and conveniently access ServerVantage, the suite’s server and database management tool; NetworkVantage, the network application performance tool and ClientVantage, the end user monitoring tool, from any workstation within the organization.
In addition, IT managers or their customers can access any information they choose via e-mail or by logging onto a portal workspace tailored to their view of operations. The suite’s new web-console navigation tree also allows easier movement from one area of VantageView to another by streamlining various application views.
Reporting Features Broaden Information Accessibility
Release 8.5 greatly expands access to preview reports in VantageView and provides the option of permanently saving them. Integrated reports can then be published, printed and instantly delivered with a single button and formatted with company or customer logos, headings or other identifiers. Reports can be quickly distributed via e-mail or sent to other web sites for viewing via convenient Windows-style navigation.
IT professionals can use Vantage 8.5 to create in-depth performance analysis by correlating end-user experience metrics and infrastructure metrics together on one report. Reports can also be designed and easily grouped under related categories with a broad variety of views, including those experienced by end users. Application managers can store specific application details, including network traffic, WAN capacity, server usage, trouble alerts and other reports, or report groups. The reports can be stored in personal folders, allowing administrators to view only the reports they want.
“Vantage 8.5 provides ComputerLand Netcare with instant access to critical application information, enabling faster resolution of customer support issues. The flexible reporting functionality ensures that we can deliver key application performance reports through our customer web portal,” said Michael Robinson, Netcare Business Unit Manager, ComputerLand UK Plc.
Complete Integration Between VantageView and ServerVantage
Release 8.5 brings increased flexibility and scalability in managing the performance of server applications through a full integration of VantageView and ServerVantage. This integration enables VantageView to manage and report from multiple servers, while ServerVantage effectively scales to manage thousands of servers.
In addition to the high scalability of Vantage, database administrators can use the suite to control all databases from one console, eliminating the need for a specific console to manage each database. Server and application monitoring can be customized to resolve potential or current trouble spots. Customized monitoring displays can be created in minutes and saved for later access. ServerVantage also consolidates its administrative functions into a central menu shared with VantageView.
“Vantage Release 8.5 provides ease in managing the entire infrastructure of an application,” said Steve Dykstra, VantageView Product Manager, Compuware. “We are providing IT professionals with unprecedented information access, slick reporting on-demand capabilities, web-based flexibility and mobility, coupled with server management that is centralized and highly scalable. Our goal is to provide existing customers and prospective Vantage users with a tool set that is a step above their expectations for managing application performance.”
