General Software Announces Embedded BIOS 2000 and Firmbase Support for the Intel 845GV Scalable Performance Board Development Kit

1/24/2003 - General Software, Inc., the leading supplier of embedded firmware, has announced its Embedded BIOSTM 2000 and Firmbase® support for the Intel® 845GV Scalable Performance Board Development Kit. This combination of hardware and firmware provides a flexible development platform that delivers exceptional user value and the power to drive robust graphics applications.

The Intel 845GV Scalable Performance Board Development Kit can be used to prototype graphics devices needing responsiveness and performance derived from its 845GV integrated graphics chipset, Pentium 4 processor, HyperThreading support, high-end memory, and high-bandwidth I/O subsystem.

All platform hardware is deployed by Embedded BIOS 2000 support modules for the board, chipset, and CPU. Embedded manufacturers can take these verified firmware components and customize them to fit their own unique hardware and software specifications, speeding development and time to market.

About the Embedded BIOSTM 2000
Embedded BIOS addresses the entire lifecycle of embedded products, from board bring-up, configuration prototyping, testing with system diagnostics, and product manufacturing to in-field diagnostics and software reload. Features include an integrated debugger; console redirection; highly configurable POST; manufacturing mode; ROM, RAM, and Flash file systems; support for a host of industry initiatives; and much more. Embedded BIOS supports industry-standard operating systems that run on PC-compatible hardware, including the full spectrum of Windows, Linux, and real-time operating systems.

About Firmbase® Technology
Embedded BIOS 2000 serves as the hardware abstraction layer for Firmbase, General Software’s high-availability operating environment. Firmbase uses patented technology to run 32-bit firmware applications concurrently with the foreground operating system. It provides a multi-threaded API to 32-bit applications running transparently to the other software in the system, including the BIOS and operating system. These programs -- called Firmware Applications -- are developed using standard, 32-bit Windows Portable Executable (PE) development tools.
