Oak's OTI-4110 Selected as One of EDN's Top 100 Products of 2002

1/20/2003 - Oak Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: OAKT), a leading provider of embedded solutions for the optical storage, digital imaging, and digital home entertainment markets, announced that its OTI-4110, an embedded imaging system-on-a-chip (SOC) solution for the personal imaging and printing markets, was named one of EDN Magazine's Top 100 Products of the Year for 2002. In the special report published in the December 12, 2002 issue, EDN praised the OTI-4110 as "an innovative device that integrates a quad-processor DSP core with the ARM946E-S CPU core into a single-chip system that targets PC-independent, personal-imaging, and printing applications."

EDN Magazine's preeminent awards program is dedicated to honoring truly innovative and outstanding engineering products in the electronics industry. EDN readers select the 100 hottest products among those presented throughout 2002, and bestow the award to the products they believe surpass all others in helping design engineers do their jobs better, faster, smarter, or differently. Fourteen major product/technology areas were eligible for consideration: Communications; Components, Hardware and Interconnect; Analog ICs and Discretes; Digital ICs; EDA; Multimedia; Processors; Network Processors; Software; Power Sources; Computers, Boards and Buses; Test and Measurement; Peripherals; and Embedded Development Tools. A complete list of product winners in all categories will appear in the January 2003 issue of EDN and is currently available on the EDN Access web site (www.ednmag.com).

"Being one of just 100 products spotlighted is a great honor for Oak," said Simon Dolan, senior vice president and general manager of Oak's Digital Imaging Group. "Our primary goal is to provide the market with useful tools and solutions. Having the readers of magazines like EDN select the OTI-4110 validates the strong initial market response for the OTI-4110."

The OTI-4110, the first in a series of imaging SOCs from Oak, is a highly integrated, fully programmable SOC solution designed specifically for the rapidly growing class of low-cost personal printing appliances, which includes multifunction peripherals, direct-connect photo printers and set-top box printers. The OTI-4110, based on Oak's advanced QuatroTM imaging SOC architecture, pairs an ARM9 CPU core with Oak's own quad-processor DSP core to provide OEMs with a unique combination of high performance and flexible programmability. In addition, the OTI-4110 integrates all of the mechanism control and connectivity required in a personal printing appliance. All that is needed to complete a controller design is RAM, ROM and analog interface components. The OTI-4110 is available now.
