1/10/2003 - Lantronix®, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRX) announced version 2.0 of its award-winning PremiseTM Home Control software, the most comprehensive middleware platform for managing and automating consumer devices on a home network.

"Premise version 2.0 is the next generation of our home control software and is designed to be the cornerstone of today's networked home," said Dan Quigley, executive vice president of Lantronix' Applications Division. "Our software continues to be rated best-of-class by our customers and leading industry publications. This version introduces features based on feedback from our customers as well as new advanced media and control capabilities."

Topping the list of new features is support for a new class of "network in -- media out" products that use wired or wireless home networks to distribute music and other media types. Premise eliminates the need for miles of speaker wire and complex switching or mixing gear that are common in multi-room multimedia systems.

Premise can also synchronize playback on a wide range of multimedia equipment, so users can enjoy all the benefits of a distributed system at a fraction of the cost. Because the software uses common IP networking, additions to the system are easy and can happen at any time. According to Electronic House magazine, Lantronix has "set the mold" with its innovative Premise product, enabling electronic products and systems (in a home) to work together over an Ethernet network.

In addition to the standard version 2.0, Lantronix is shipping a new Personal Edition of the Premise product. Both versions are built on the Lantronix SYS® technology engine and include support for the same devices and applications. The key differences between the two products are in cost and the scope of the intended installation.

"Feedback from our channel partners indicated a strong demand for an entry-level product, especially for the medium-ranged new home market," said Quigley. "With the capabilities of our Personal Edition, the same network that consumers use to access the Internet and interconnect their PCs can now be used to manage home entertainment, security and environmental systems."
