Fujitsu’s Softek SRM Software Wins Storage Management Product of the Year Award

1/9/2003 - The editors of Tech Target’s Storage magazine and, two of the industry’s most respected resources for storage-related news and information, announced Monday that SoftekTM Storage Manager storage resource management (SRM) software received the Storage Management Product of the Year award in the publications’ first annual competition.

In presenting its Gold medal award, a blue-ribbon panel of editors, independent industry experts and storage managers assembled by Storage magazine and stated that Softek Storage Manager “gives users the most management for their IT buck.” The panel judged storage management software products on innovation, performance, ease of integration into environment, ease of use and manageability, functionality and value.

According to the judges, Softek Storage Manager “emerged from the pack to answer the call for automated storage provisioning, archiving, security and overall SAN management.” The panel also noted that Softek Storage Manager not only “centralizes and automates storage management in multivendor environments, but it goes the extra mile by allowing users to pool management of disparate data and storage hardware types, including both open and mainframe systems, through the use of virtualization, replication, migration and storage resource management technology.”

Consideration for the Gold Product Award took into account legacy capabilities, with Softek Storage Manager getting special notice for its wide platform support for both hardware and software. Softek Storage Manager works with Windows NT/2000, Sun Solaris, HP/UX, AIX and mainframe platforms OS/390 and Z/OS.

Judges evaluated each product based on the qualities that enable today's storage organizations--which face tight budgets, staffing crises, and ever-increasing data volumes--to do their jobs better and more easily. Together, the list comprises those products whose performance, ease of use and integration, function, innovation, and value make them a "must" for any storage professional's list of products to evaluate in 2003.

"Despite a year marked by many starts and stops in product development, new, highly innovative storage products hit the market in 2002," said Mark Schlack, editor in chief, Storage. "From our conversations with storage managers, we knew however, that innovation--while certainly the hallmark of great new products--wasn't sufficient to define those products that storage professionals should put on their "A" list for evaluation. The criteria we used to develop this list allowed us to single out products that would truly help storage managers succeed in an increasingly difficult environment."

“It is rewarding to see the multi-vendor storage management vision we staked out two years ago and the innovative input of our customers and staff recognized by the leading voices in our industry,” said Steven Murphy, president and CEO at Softek. “Our company’s sole focus has been, and will continue to be, helping our customers simplify and optimize their storage infrastructures. We will continue to show leadership in delivering automated and intelligent vendor-independent solutions that lower the costs and reduce the risks associated with managing complex and growing storage infrastructures. On behalf of our supportive customers and innovative product team, it is with great pride that we accept the Gold medal from and Storage magazine.”
