Aplix's JBlend Technology Delivers J2ME Capability To Sprint's New PCS Vision-Enabled Mobile Phone Manufactured by Sanyo

9/30/2002 - Aplix Corporation, the global leader in deploying JavaTM technology in mobile phones, announced that its JBlendTM Java execution environment platform has been deployed on a new PCS Vision-enabled phone by Sprint, manufactured by Sanyo and being shipped by Sanyo Fisher Company. This development marks the first US deployment of JBlend technology, which has enjoyed unparalleled success in the Japanese market after being incorporated into 29 wireless handset models from 11 different manufacturers to date.

As of the end of July this year, Aplix's JBlend technology has shipped in more than 10 million units of mobile phones and home electronics devices. It has also been incorporated in a variety of other embedded products, including mini disc camcorders, digital photo printers, digital image albums, and High Definition Televisions (HDTV).

Sanyo has implemented Aplix's popular JBlend technology for the new SCP-4900 handset, which incorporates the Java 2 Platform Micro Edition's (J2METM) Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC), Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP), Sprint PCS extensions and Aplix's patent-pending acceleration technology. This comprehensive platform enables Sprint customers to enjoy an enhanced experience through the graphical, personalized, and interactive wireless data services distributed in the US by Sprint. Users will have the ability to run enhanced games, maps, and productivity applications that can be downloaded to the phone wirelessly.

"Aplix's JBlend technology brings the power of J2ME technology to users, providing them with a rich variety of new features and multimedia capabilities," said Atsushi Kodera, group vice president, general manager of Sanyo Fisher Company's Communications/Information Technology Division. "In selecting a partner to implement Java functionality in the latest Vision-enabled handsets for the US market, the success of JBlend technology in the Japanese market and Aplix's ability to meet our time-to-market objectives made our decision easy. Aplix is Sanyo's choice to deliver a fast, reliable, scaleable and robust Java environment for mobile phones."

"We appreciate the vote of confidence Sanyo has shown in selecting JBlend technology in multiple products, first in Japan and now in the US," said Ryu Koriyama, founder, chief executive officer and chairman of Aplix Corporation. "The US market is certainly one of the new frontiers for JBlend technology. Sprint operates the largest all-digital, all PCS network in the nation, so we're honored to see our technology included in one of the first Vision-enabled Java-capable phones on the market."
