9/26/2002 - Trimble announced that the Global Positioning System Joint Program Office (GPS JPO) has granted security approval for the Company's Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM)-based GPS receivers incorporating the U.S. Government's Key Data Processor Operational Software Version 1.0. The operational software security approval confirms that Trimble has successfully demonstrated all of the added security features contained in the SAASM design. SAASM is the next generation of GPS security architecture that provides significant improvements in protection for authorized military users.
Trimble's SAASM Model 21, ForceTM20 and Force 22 GPS receivers were issued the operational software security approval. The Model 21 implements the SAASM security architecture as a multi-chip (MCM) with tamper resistant technology. It is incorporated in Trimble´s Force 20 and Force 22 receivers.
The Force 20 is the world's smallest SAASM-based receiver. The Type III PC Card is ideally suited for portable computing and embedded applications such as military planning systems, mobile tracking, geo-location systems, and wearable computers.
Trimble's first SAASM-based product, the Force 22 Miniature Ruggedized Unit (MRU), was developed for the U.S. Army's Advanced Hornet munitions program and is currently in low rate production. Other Force 22 receiver applications include Unmanned Airborne Vehicles (UAVs), time and frequency systems, and mobile satellite communication systems.
Trimble is a leading innovator of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. In addition to providing advanced GPS components, Trimble augments GPS with other positioning technologies as well as wireless communications and software to create complete customer solutions. Trimble's worldwide presence and unique capabilities position the Company for growth in emerging applications including surveying, automobile navigation, machine guidance, asset tracking, wireless platforms, and telecommunications infrastructure. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., Trimble has more than 2,000 employees in more than 20 countries worldwide.
