9/24/2002 - Equator Technologies, a leading provider of high-performance, programmable and power-efficient system-on-a-chip processors for video streaming and image processing applications and E2Vision (E2V), a Singapore video solutions company, announced that E2Vision’s hardware development platform, the Dragon II, including the Equator BSPTM-15 chip, provides support for Windows Media 9 Series. The result is a low-cost, high-performance, multi-format hardware reference design for the industry’s first generation of consumer devices delivering high-definition (720p) Windows Media 9 Video.
E2V's Dragon II is a complete hardware reference design, which provides a plug-and-play development platform for rapidly prototyping and deploying video-centric products based on the BSP-15 chip. OEMs using the software-programmable BSP-15 chip, which delivers up to 40 GOPs of image processing power, benefit from a flexible, high-speed chip that is capable of processing the many complex algorithms that are required for a broad range of enhanced digital video applications. With Windows Media 9 Series support added to MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.263, and other proprietary low bit-rate streaming video codecs from companies such as On2 and DivXNetworks, the combined Equator-E2Vision solution is the ideal platform for all advanced video products.
"As the marketing arm of Equator Technologies in Asia, we are pleased to see the progress Equator is making with the Microsoft Windows Media 9 Series. We at E2V believe that our Dragon II platform will enable new streaming video products and other smart consumer video appliances to take advantage of the most advanced video technology available," said H.E. Chan, executive vice president of E2Vision. "We believe this bold offering from Equator Technologies demonstrates why Equator’s BSP-15 chip is the leading media processor on the market as it continues to outpace the competition."
"As our customers are under increasing pressure to deliver the most innovative products in less time, platforms such as Dragon II have a significant impact in cutting the customer’s development time," said Rich Christopher, senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Equator Technologies. "We are excited to work with E2Vision and our customers to bring the exciting new Windows Media 9 Series consumer video appliances to the market."
