9/24/2002 - Furthering their longstanding relationship, Texas Instruments and AudioCodes, a leading provider of Voice over Packet (VoP) technologies, announced that AudioCodes has selected TI's high density digital signal processor (DSP) silicon for its next-generation VoP product line. With this selection, a next generation AudioCodes product will be based on AC491, a DSP that is comprised of TI's ultra power efficient TMS320C55x digital signal processor (DSP) cores.
A valued TI DSP customer for many years, AudioCodes has shared with TI a long-term commitment to working together in the packet telephony space. "Our latest AC486 release and near future release of AC491, both based on TI's C5000 DSPs, gives us yet again a leading edge in VoP enabling technologies solutions," said Shaul Weissman, VoP Processors Marketing Director, AudioCodes. "Combined with our field proven, feature rich software, we feel confident we can maintain our position as market leader in both medium and high density VoP solutions."
AudioCodes sells a variety of VoP processors, which are customized versions of TI's TMS320C54x family of DSPs. These VoP processors have also been the building blocks for AudioCodes' modules, boards and systems. AudioCodes' most recent VoP processor product, the AC486, is currently designed in with several leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). TI´s DSP technology, combined with AudioCodes' high density and feature rich software, makes a VoP platform for the utmost benefit of telecom and datacom equipment manufacturers.

The AC486 can process up to 24 low bit rate (G.723.1, G.729A) channels with 64 msec echo canceller tail, and is intended for enterprise gateways. The AC491 is the most power efficient VoP processor in the industry. It is the first multi-core device designed on TI's TMS320VC55x architecture, which integrates six C55x cores, on-chip memory and optimized peripherals in a package the size of a dime, enabling equipment designers to substantially increase channel densities in their systems. The AC491 serves as a building block for AudioCodes' modules and boards, and will also be offered as a VoP processor for high density gateways.
Being code upgradeable, using both VoP processors enables clients to benefit from AudioCodes' high quality and mature software, as well as reference designs.
