New Siemens Ultrasound Imaging Platform Features RadiSys Single-Board Computer

9/20/2002 - A long-life single-board computer (SBC) from RadiSys is a key component of a new, multi-specialty diagnostic ultrasound system recently introduced by Siemens Medical Solutions. This new system incorporates the latest generation, all-digital ultrasound technologies into a powerful, portable system, accommodating a full range of applications in radiology and cardiology imaging.

The SONOLINE® G60 S is based on an architecture that allows for on-board image and data management, as well as a complete range of programmable imaging parameters, exam steps, and measurement/report packages. The system's embedded DICOM capabilities will deliver quick connectivity into departmental or hospital-wide PACS networks, and the upgradeability of its software offers the potential to seamlessly integrate new clinical innovations.

"A critical reason for Siemens to partner with RadiSys for this project was the company's ability to offer long product life and long-term engineering support," said Jin Kim, Ph.D., senior vice president and chief technology officer of the Siemens Medical Solutions Ultrasound Division. "Unlike commercial motherboards which have typical lifetimes of six to twelve months, Radisys committed to an extended life cycle that goes well beyond five years. This helps us contain costs and minimize the need for re-certification by regulatory agencies."

The new ultrasound platform incorporates clinically proven technologies that have migrated from other Siemens ultrasound products, including SieScape® panoramic imaging, tissue harmonic imaging (THI), and integrated stress echo, all made possible by the system's proprietary digital architecture.
