9/18/2002 - Seven industry experts from Fujitsu Network Communications were selected from a pool of applicants to deliver in-depth technical presentations at The National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC), held at the Dallas Convention Center from September 15-19, 2002. Representatives from Fujitsu, the market leader in optical telecommunications, will cover a variety of topics, ranging from the future of optical networking to decreasing carrier expenditures.
Dr. Sunan Han, a principal planner in the Fujitsu metro marketing department, presents Economics in Deploying Next-Generation SONET Equipment in Metro Networks during the 'Metro Networks Economics' track on Tuesday, September 17, 2002. Dr. Han will share detailed research on integrating next-generation SONET equipment into today's metro optical networks. Through research conducted on live traffic from Central Offices (CO), Interoffice Facilities (IOF) and metro networks, Fujitsu will show how the deployment of next generation (SONET ADM) equipment improves network efficiency while significantly decreasing equipment (capital) costs, floor space and power consumption.
Jim Orr, strategic network planner, and Mike White, principal planner, of Fujitsu Network Communications will present The Layered Network: Allowing for the Cost-Effective Migration to Next-Generation Networks, as part of the 'Network Layers' conference track on Wednesday, September 18, 2002. Orr and White will explore various cost-effective network migration strategies currently available to network planners. They will also discuss significant cost control opportunities associated with the integration of transport and grooming functions at the network segment borders. In addition, Wednesday's technical program on 'Building, Measuring and Maintaining the Physical Network' includes a poster session from the world-class Fujitsu Photonics Laboratory. Dr. Susumu Kinoshita, director of the Photonics Networking Laboratory, and Dr. Cechan Tian, a Photonics Laboratory researcher, present a poster session titled A Distributing EDFA (Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier) with Relaxed Gain Saturations.
Don O'Connor, distinguished Ethernet/Data planner with Fujitsu Network Communications, covers Hierarchical Virtual Private LAN Service – Potential Role of SONET ADM during the 'Delivering Services' session Thursday, September 19, 2002. The presentation will explore the emerging trend towards deploying virtual private network (VPN) services. SONET ADMs with Ethernet and VPLS functionality can play an important role in implementing the access components of VPLS architecture. Mr. O'Connor will describe and compare the implementation approaches, requirements and benefits associated with ADM (add-drop multiplexer) support of hierarchical VPLS.
Larry Steinhorst, senior manager of product planning at Fujitsu, will be presenting Mixed Fiber Networks and DWDM Transmission Systems as part of the 'WDM and DWDM Systems' track on Thursday, September 19, 2002. Steinhorst will review the issues and challenges associated with the deployment of DWDM systems in heterogeneous outside plant environment. As carriers begin to deploy ultra long haul systems in their networks to drive out the cost of electrical regeneration, the issues with mixed fibers become more acute. Specifically, he will address account fiber non-linearities, chromatic dispersion, dispersion compensation, dispersion slope, OSNR (optical signal to noise ratio), Raman Amplification, PMD (physical medium dependence) and other factors.
