9/16/2002 - Nextreaming and Equator Technologies, a leading provider of high-performance, programmable and power-efficient system-on-a-chip processors for video streaming and image processing applications, announced the immediate availability of the NexplayerTM software-based media player, on Equator’s BSPTM-15 platform. Nextreaming’s MPEG-4 based media player is being demonstrated at IBC2002 (International Broadcasting Convention) in Amsterdam, September 13-17 on the Equator booth (620 Hall 7).
Nexplayer incorporates ISMA (Internet Streaming Media Alliance) standards and supports MPEG-4 AAC LC audio decoding, MPEG-4 SP (Simple Profile), ASP (Advanced Simple Profile) video decoding, and MPEG-4 System file format (MP4 file format) on Equator’s BSP-15 platform, making it an ideal solution for video-on-demand (VOD) appliances, home gateways, set-top boxes, and other digital video consumer appliances that demand standards-based interoperability.
At 400MHz, the BSP-15 system-on-a-chip delivers up to 40 GOPS (billions of operations per second) of video processing power. As a complete system-on-a-chip with superior video processing power, the BSP-15 chips can decode multiple MPEG-4 streams concurrently, enabling advanced features such as picture-in-picture viewing. Furthermore, being a programmable platform, the BSP-15 platform allows for advanced post-processing to improve video quality and bit-rate profile, leading to substantial improvements in performance, flexibility and upgrading over any fixed-function implementation of MPEG-4 standards.
"Equator has demonstrated remarkable market traction," said Dr. Il-Taek Lim, president and CEO of Nextreaming. "We are excited by the partnership with Equator and the opportunities available for bringing our MPEG-4 streaming solutions to the market. No other platform offers the same technological competitiveness as provided by Equator’s platform."
"There has been a dramatic increase in market demand for MPEG-4 based solutions, so we are very excited to bring this advanced streaming media player to the market. The Nextreaming solution is well received by customers due to its standard conformance and excellent performance," said Avi Katz, president and CEO of Equator. "We are confident that our customers will be satisfied with the quality that Nextreaming offers in its media player and the ability to bring products to markets quickly. Together, Nextreaming and Equator bring high performance, low bit-rate, and cost-effectiveness to the market, satisfying the long-awaited market cry for interoperable video today."
The NexplayerTM software can be licensed directly from Nextreaming Corporation and is immediately available.
