9/12/2002 - Source Medical, the world's leading provider of outpatient information solutions and Sun Microsystems, announced a new alliance designed to better service the unique data storage needs of healthcare providers.
Source Medical chose to utilize the SunTM platform for its information management solutions, which are designed to enable healthcare providers to quickly and easily collect information about their patients using the latest computer technologies, dramatically reducing paperwork and errors associated with more traditional methods of medical documentation.
"Our unique solutions are changing the way healthcare providers access, store and utilize their data," said P. Daryl Brown, Source Medical's President and CEO. "The Sun platform helps us provide our 3,500 customers with a 'large company' information technology infrastructure at 'small company' costs, regardless of the size of their operation."
For example, SourceRad, Source Medical's leading outpatient radiology information management solution, assists diagnostic imaging facilities throughout every step of the patient care process, from scheduling and registering appointments to treatment to billing and collections. This unique "end-to-end" process is proven to reduce healthcare costs, improve information accuracy, and increase clinical efficiency. Enabled by the Sun platform, SourceRad is currently being deployed in over 150 radiology facilities nationwide.
"Sun helped Source Medical implement a best-of-breed application service provider (ASP) infrastructure that includes Sun FireTM 4800 midframe servers configured in a VERITAS high availability cluster, and Sun StorEdgeTM systems and software solutions housed in an Oracle database-all running on the SolarisTM Operating Environment," said Marge Breya, vice president, Industry Solutions at Sun. "This platform provides Source Medical with a complete, reliable, scalable and secure customer-focused network infrastructure solution, thereby reducing costs, improving accuracy, and increasing efficiencies."
To better serve its customers and to reinforce the company's position as a "best-of-breed" solutions provider, Source Medical's decision to base its ASP infrastructure on the Sun platform results in:
"The Sun platform also strengthens our business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities by deploying a replica of our Sun network environment to enable mirroring of data across geographical locations." said Tom Hui, Source Medical's Chief Technology Officer. "We intend to migrate all of our Web-based products to the Sun platform in order to provide our customers with access to truly superior enterprise-wide solutions."
