9/10/2002 - IONA®, the leading e-Business Platform provider for Web Services Integration, announced that Fiskars Brands has chosen the IONA Orbix E2ATM Web Services Integration Platform as the cornerstone of its company-wide, global integration standardization strategy.
The first step in Fiskars Brands, Inc.'s integration strategy will be to integrate its global JD Edwards implementation with multiple SQL Servers and Microsoft's NT-based point-of-sale (POS) system using IONA's Orbix E2A Web Services Integration Platform. Orbix E2A facilitates the direct connection of these systems via Web services, reducing development resources from 4 to 1, code-generation time from five days to less than 24 hours, and providing a standardized re-usable interface for future integration with additional business systems.
"Our goal is to achieve significant reduction in operating expenses and increased cost efficiencies through standardization," said Carl Try, Manager of e-commerce and advanced technology at Fiskars Brands, Inc. "In selecting IONA Orbix E2A, we are implementing an integration infrastructure with native support for Web services, J2EE and CORBA, a wide range of packaged application adapters, and certified UCCnet support. Orbix E2A Web Services Integration Platform was the only solution that satisfied all of our requirements and, more importantly, offered us an open and standards-based backbone that would grow with the demands of our organization."
"Fiskars Brands, Inc.'s integration standardization strategy is a perfect example of the wake-up call happening today in IT departments around the world," said Barry Morris, CEO at IONA. "The biggest challenge for these organizations is finding ways to leverage their earlier investments in often proprietary technologies to improve efficiencies. With Orbix E2A Web Services Integration Platform, we are offering enterprises an open, standards-based solution that works as an information bus to enable the flow of information across applications, groups and whole businesses.
Orbix E2A - the Next Generation of Service-Oriented Integration Solutions
The Orbix E2A Web Services Integration Platform, announced in November 2001, is a complete, enterprise-class business integration solution. The first 100% standards-based, services-oriented Web Services Integration platform, IONA Orbix E2A provides the tools and the management services required for reliable, scalable, and secure dynamic data exchange, business process automation, and composite applications.
The Orbix E2A Application Server Platform is the most deployed, heterogeneous application server in the industry. Orbix E2A Application Server Platform combines the scalability of CORBA and the productivity of J2EE, with Web services standards.
IONA's Orbix E2A product lines benefits from the company's commitment to open standards. IONA is an active member of the Web Services Interoperability (WS-I) Organization and the SOAPBuilders Forum-independent organizations dedicated to the promotion and interoperability of Web services standards. IONA is also an active member of other industry standards bodies including the W3C and OMG.
