Agilent Technologies Offers Industry-first 43 Gb/s multi-rate SONET/SDH and OTN Test Set for R&D and Verification Applications

9/10/2002 - Agilent Technologies introduced the OmniBER OTN 40 Gb/s communications performance analyzer, the industry's first fully integrated multi-rate SONET/SDH and OTN test set for developing and qualifying 40 Gb/s and 43 Gb/s line cards, modules and sub-systems.

Equipped with all line rates from 52 Mb/s through to 40 Gb/s plus 10.71/43 Gb/s optical channel (OTU-2/OTU-3), the Agilent OmniBER OTN offers unparalleled flexibility for validating device operation and conformance to both design criteria and Telcordia/ITU-T standards.

The analyzer's capabilities include intrusive "thru" mode for both SONET/SDH and OTN at 40 Gb/s and 43 Gb/s. This assures effective in-service monitoring and the ability to inter-work with customers' reference units. At 43 Gb/s, the OmniBER OTN analyzer offers ITU-T G.709-compliant OTU-3 testing with powerful, in-depth Forward Error Correction (FEC) analysis plus error-add capability. This enables engineers to simulate realistic network conditions and speeds network equipment manufacturers' (NEMs) transition to OTN.

"Although 40 Gb/s deployment is still in its infancy, development continues at an unrelenting pace in R&D labs," said Geoff Thow, general manager, Telecomms Networks Test Division. "Currently, no other 40 Gb/s tester has the breadth of capability, nor the depth of mappings, that is necessary for NEMs to thoroughly test their devices, characterize designs and demonstrate their product's stability to potential customers."
