9/9/2002 - Equator Technologies, a leading provider of high-performance, programmable and power-efficient system-on-a-chip processors for video streaming and image processing applications, announced that it will demonstrate the versatility of its powerful platform for multi-format, high-definition video through demonstrations with strategic partners, set-top box and home gateway manufacturers at IBC2002 (International Broadcasting Convention) in Amsterdam, Netherlands, September 13-17.
Co-exhibiting as part of the MPEG-4 Industry Forum (M4IF) (booth #7.620) and joining partners and customers in their exhibitions, Equator will showcase its BSP™-15 (Broadband Signal Processor) platform, which supports a wide range of standard and proprietary audio and video compression technologies, including MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. With specifics to be announced at IBC, Equator will also feature a major new offering on the BSP-15 platform that provides unmatched audio and video quality in visually stunning high-definition video.
Equator’s high-performance C/C++-programmable, system-on-a-chip solution is based on proprietary VLIW/SIMD architecture and is optimized for video-intense applications. Operating at 40 GOPS (billion operations per second), the BSP family of chips delivers the power and flexibility to allow any codec at any time, enabling multi-format video on a single platform. Furthermore, the fully software-programmable architecture enables OEMs to tap into the latest innovation in audio and video compression technology and take products to market long before hard-wired solutions exist. Taken together, the BSP-15 platform allows OEMs to introduce new features sooner, differentiate their products more readily and extend their product lifecycle through simple software upgrades.
"IBC provides us an exciting opportunity to showcase the breadth and depth of our offering to the whole streaming media industry. Our BSP platform offers high-performance for headend equipment manufacturers and the low power consumption and cost effectiveness necessary for the high-volume consumer products," said Avi Katz of Equator. "The fact that we are delivering multi-format and high-definition today will provide our customers with the greatest range of choices and a decisive time-to-market advantage. In turn, this will drive the proliferation of a brand new crop of devices that delivers more value to the end user. We are proud to see on the IBC show floor many products that have Equator technology under the hood and we look forward to delivering more value to our customers."
At this year’s IBC, Equator will demonstrate its BSP platform with strategic partners at M4IF’s booth (#7.620), including an advanced MPEG-4 based streaming VOD solution. In addition, Equator’s BSP platform will also be showcased at Pace's (#1.135) booth, as the video engine in Pace’s family of home gateway products.
IBC is the world's premier broadcast technology event, covering all the key areas of the electronic media business, including audio, cable, film, grip, Internet, lighting, multimedia, production, post production, radio, satellite and transmission. IBC is held each September at the Amsterdam RAI Congress Centre and now attracts around 40,000 people from over 100 countries.
