QNX to Add Support for the Intel IXC1100 Control Plane Processor

9/5/2002 - Easing the development path for networking OEMs, QNX Software Systems announced that it will integrate support for the Intel IXC1100 control plane processor into the QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS). Together, QNX and Intel continue to deepen their technical leadership in the broadband access, wireless infrastructure, IP, and optical markets.

Networking OEMs are under constant pressure from service providers to deliver high-performance infrastructure products that can scale in processing capacity to handle continuously growing network topology, larger routing tables, and differentiated services. The QNX Neutrino RTOS, combined with the Intel IXC1100's integrated peripheral set, small footprint, and low power consumption, delivers a highly reliable, highly scalable solution for equipment vendors who need to address today's carrier requirements. As a member of the Intel Internet Exchange Architecture Developer Network, QNX provides a flexible, portable, and easy-to-use software foundation for Intel's Network Infrastructure processors.

"QNX provides a lean, robust software platform that's ready to use out of the box for developing high-end IP, broadband, and wireless infrastructure products," said Sebastien Marineau, senior netcom architect, QNX Software Systems. "As QNX moves to support the Intel IXC1100 control plane processor family, vendors can anticipate unprecedented development power and convenience."

"The combination of the QNX Neutrino RTOS and the new Intel IXC1100 control plane processor provides a high-performance, low-power, and scalable hardware and software solution for telecom equipment aimed at meeting the unpredictable traffic demand for voice, video, and data services in converged networks," said Doug Davis, general manager of Intel's Network Processing Division.

About the QNX Neutrino RTOS
Based on a scalable microkernel architecture, the QNX Neutrino RTOS offers symmetric multi-processing (SMP), built-in distributed processing, fault-tolerant networking, and full memory protection for all drivers, protocol stacks, and applications. QNX Neutrino also provides support for high-availability applications, including automatic recovery from software failure, software hot-swap, and in-service upgrades. QNX Neutrino forms the core of the QNX Networking Platform (www.qnx.com/products/), a targeted solution for networking OEMs.
