9/5/2002 - MontaVista Software, the company powering the embedded revolution, announced it has been chosen as one of Communication Systems Design magazine's "COMET" companies for 2002.
The third annual Comet awards honor companies that have the vision, focus, technology and risk-taking mentality to help them become significant players in the communications market. A team of editors from Communication Systems Design, EE Times, and CommsDesign.com develop and evaluate this list of the "hottest" emerging communication companies. They selected MontaVista as one of 20 companies that made this year's list.
"MontaVista Software has leveraged Linux's open architecture and inherent simplicity, robustness and reliability, to the benefit of the data and telecommunications industry," said Patrick Mannion, editor-in-chief of CSD. "Key partnerships with the likes of Intel, IBM, RadiSys and GoAhead Software have shored up MontaVista Software's vision to bring about a revolution in real-time, carrier-grade embedded operating systems."
MontaVista Software products, MontaVista High Availability Framework and MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE), are successfully serving the needs of the communications market. CGE in particular, which was released earlier this year, is the industry's first and only COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) carrier-class Linux platform for telecommunications applications.
"MontaVista Software is demonstrating the strong validation and successful acceptance of Linux in the telecommunications market," said Jim Ready, president and CEO, MontaVista Software. "In 2002, we expect that Linux will become the platform of choice for carrier-grade applications in telecommunications and also predict the burgeoning use of Linux with network processors."
In June, MontaVista Software was also named as one of Upside magazine's "Hot 100" companies. In March, Electronic Business magazine picked MontaVista as one of its "Thirty Best Small Electronics Companies for 2002." Earlier this year, MontaVista Software's flagship product, MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 2.1, was named "Best Embedded Linux Solution" at the Linux World and Expo in New York, and was also recognized as "Best Embedded Tool and Development Solution for 2002" by the prestigious French publication "Electronique."
MontaVista Software has more than several hundred corporate customers including Global 500 telecommunications corporations Ericsson, Nokia and many more. The company is an active member and key contributor of the Open Systems Development Lab (OSDL) Carrier Grade Linux Working Group, and of the Service Availability Forum (SAF).
