Mellanox Technologies Features 2nd Generation InfiniBand Silicon at Intel Developers Forum

9/5/2002 - MellanoxTM Technologies, the leader in InfiniBand[SM] silicon, announced its participation at the Intel’s Developers Forum (IDF) in San Jose, CA on September 9-12 in booth #611. Mellanox will highlight InfiniBand’s low latency, reliability and availability features through demonstrations of its second generation, 10Gb/sec InfiniBand silicon devices and reference designs in multiple demonstrations. Executives from the company will also be featured speakers at two conference sessions highlighting the benefits of InfiniBand technology.

"Mellanox is dedicated to providing superior InfiniBand solutions to the data center and high performance computing markets," said Dana Krelle, vice president of marketing for Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. "We continue to see a large and promising market for InfiniBand because of its substantial total cost of ownership benefits, performance leadership, and ease of management capabilities through time. Multiple demonstrations and presentations at IDF will clearly illustrate the benefits InfiniBand offers."

Demonstrations at the Mellanox booth will include:

  • High Bandwidth, Low CPU Utilization InfiniBand Transport: Mellanox’s second generation InfiniHost silicon will demonstrate the hardware transport capabilities of InfiniBand technology.
  • IBM DB2® Universal Data BaseTM Clustering: Mellanox’s Nitro InfiniBand server blade reference design will be used as a platform to demonstrate IBM DB2 Universal Data Base clustering with Mellanox HCAs.
  • Highly Scaleable InfiniBand High Performance Computing Clustering Demonstration: Mellanox’s Nitro InfiniBand server blade reference design will run an MPI based compute intensive graphics rendering demonstration to highlight InfiniBand’s performance in clustered environments.
  • 10 Gb/sec InfiniBand Server Blades and Switch: Mellanox will showcase the "10Gb/sec Data Center in a Box" concept through its state-of-the-art, Nitro II server blade, switch and backplane reference designs.

In addition, Mellanox will be demonstrating its HCA’s in the IBM booth.

  • IBM DB2 Universal Data Base Clustering: Mellanox’s HCA reference designs are utilized to demonstrate DB2 clustering as part of a 40-node cluster.

IDF sessions will feature two Mellanox speakers:

  • Data Center Interconnects and PCI Express Architecture: Diego Crupnicoff, senior architect, will discuss how the InfiniBand architecture and PCI Express complement each other in expanding server bandwidth. Session PCIS147; Wednesday at 11am.
  • InfiniBand Product Deployment On Linux: Kevin Deierling, vice president of product marketing, will discuss the development of open source Linux solutions and its deployment. Session IBAS86; Wednesday at 2 pm.

The InfiniBand Architecture is the only 10Gb/sec ultra low latency clustering, communication and storage interconnect in the market today. Based on an industry standard with reliability, availability, serviceability and manageability features designed in from the ground up, InfiniBand provides the most robust data center interconnect solution available. These attributes greatly improve TCO for the data center. Low cost InfiniBand silicon is shipping today that supports 10Gb/sec RDMA transfers and with its approved specification for 30Gb/sec, InfiniBand is at least a generation ahead of competing fabric technologies today and for the foreseeable future.
