HCL Technologies Adopts Magma Solutions to Extend Physical Design Service Capabilities

9/4/2002 - Magma Design Automation, a provider of chip design solutions, announced that HCL Technologies (HCLT), India's leading technology services provider, has licensed Magma's Blast FusionTM physical design system. HCLT provides comprehensive outsourced R&D services spanning system on chip (SoC) design, ASIC design, ASIC/SoC verification, FPGA design, high-speed board design, network processors, embedded software and complete product design. These services are offered to venture-backed and established companies worldwide in the networking, telecom, wireless, consumer electronics, aerospace, automotive, industrial automation and medical electronics verticals.

"With expertise in verification and front-end design tools, we carefully evaluated the leading physical design offerings to find a cost-effective, high-productivity and easy-to-adopt solution," said G.H. Rao, associate vice president at HCL Technologies. "We selected Blast Fusion because it integrates all necessary physical design components in a single system, minimizing both tool and flow deployment costs."

By adopting Magma's integrated solution, HCLT will be able to extend its physical design capabilities to provide its design services customers with time-to-market, cost and productivity advantages for deep-submicron SoCs.

"With its proven SoC design expertise, HCLT is well positioned to leverage the capabilities of our comprehensive design flow for their customers' most challenging designs," said Rajeev Madhavan, Magma chairman and chief executive officer. "We look forward to helping them provide complete RTL-to-GDSII design services and increase the quality of results and reduce the development costs of their customers' multimillion-gate, high-speed designs."

About Magma Design Automation (www.magma-da.com)
Magma software is used to design fast, multimillion-gate integrated circuits, enabling chip designers to reduce the time required to produce complex ICs. Magma's products for prototyping, synthesis, and place & route provide a single executable for RTL-to-GDSII chip design. The company's Blast FusionTM, Blast Chip®, Blast PlanTM, Blast Noise® and Blast PrototypeTM products utilize Magma's proprietary FixedTiming® methodology and single data model architecture to reduce the timing-closure iterations often required between the logic and physical processes in conventional IC design flows. Magma's Diamond SITM also leverages the single data model architecture to provide an integrated, standalone platform for post-layout, sign-off-quality signal integrity verification.

Magma maintains headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., as well as sales and support facilities in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, Calif.; Boston, Mass.; Durham, N.C.; Austin and Dallas, Texas; Newcastle, Wash.; and in Canada, Germany, Israel, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The company's stock trades on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol LAVA.

Magma, Blast Chip and FixedTiming are registered trademarks and Blast Fusion, Blast Noise, Blast Plan, Blast Prototype and Diamond SI are trademarks of Magma Design Automation.
