BittWare ASIC Integrates TigerSHARC DSPs with 64/66 PCI

9/4/2002 - BittWare announced the release of the SFIN-101 SharcFIN, the second product in BittWare's successful family of PCI-DSP interface ASICs for Analog Devices' SHARC® and TigerSHARC DSPs. The SFIN-101 is a complete, single-chip solution that interfaces the ADSP-TS101S with 64-bit, 66 MHz PCI and board-level utilities, providing the groundwork for designers to quickly integrate TigerSHARC DSPs onto a PCI board.

The SFIN-101 is an ideal solution for saving time and money while reducing design risk. Using PCI as a standard bus for system communication and control allows a more modular system design, simplifying system and software development. And since the SharcFIN interfaces the PCI bus to the TigerSHARC DSP, designers do not need to invest in FPGAs or other PLDs to glue together standard interfaces with the DSPs. Based on proven technology, the SFIN-101 has a wealth of software and driver support and has been shipping as an integral component in BittWare's Tiger family of DSP boards, allowing designers to even further reduce design risk.

"Using the SharcFIN enables our customers to leverage some of BittWare's expertise packaged in a chip rather than having to figure it all out for themselves," said Jeffry Milrod, president of BittWare. "In addition, we've provided valuable functionality, which they probably can't afford to implement, that could dramatically improve their systems implementation."

About the SharcFIN
The SFIN-101 SharcFIN is a feature-rich, single device that combines the complex control of the PCI bus along with an interface to the Analog Devices ADSP-TS101S TigerSHARC DSP. The SharcFIN flexibly interfaces the ADSP-TS101S DSPs to a wide range of interfaces, including 64-bit, 66 MHz PCI bus (rev. 2.2 compliant), I2CTM serial ports, flash memory, and a general-purpose expansion bus. The SharcFIN also provides a feature-rich set of DMA func-tions and interrupt options to support very high-speed, real-time data flow with a minimum of processor overhead.

SFIN-101 Developer's Kit
To help designers get started with their TigerSHARC PCI board designs, BittWare offers a developer's kit for the SFIN-101 SharcFIN. The SFIN-101 Developer's Kit includes:

Availability and Pricing
The SFIN-101 SharcFIN for TigerSHARC DSPs is available now, with OEM quantities (5000 pieces per year) priced at $99 per chip. The SFIN-101 Developer's Kit is priced at $30,000. An ADSP-21160 version of the SharcFIN (SFIN-160) and an ADSP-21161 version (SFIN-161) are also available, with OEM quantity pricing at $89 and $25 per chip, respectively.
