American Arium Announces Excalibur[TM] Quick Start Reference Kit

9/3/2002 - American Arium, an industry leader in software debug and integration tool development, announced availability of the ExcaliburTM Quick Start reference kit for the EPXA4 device, a member of Altera’s Excalibur device family. With the Excalibur Quick Start Reference Kit, developers can design, develop, and debug complex embedded systems quickly, reducing time-to-market and development costs.

Larry Traylor, American Arium’s CEO, notes, "We wanted to bring a product to market so developers can get an entire development environment up and running in a very short period of time. The American Arium installation wizard brings all the tools together quickly with thorough, documented samples."

The kit includes:

  • American Arium SC-1000 emulator with the ETM trace module, a premier development tool with deep trace up to 30 million samples. Key Excalibur-specific features like PLD programming and system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) device views are also included with the module.
  • American Arium REF-XA4 reference board featuring the Excalibur EPXA4 device from Altera, provides a complete processor subsystem tightly integrated with a PLD for SOPC solutions. The board features an LCD display monitor, USB 2.0, LAN, RS-232, 128 MB SDRAM in a DIMM socket, 8 MB flash memory, and one 4x50 pin connector for expansion bus interface (EBI) signals.
  • Altera Quartus® II software provides a complete flow for creating high-performance system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) designs. SOPC Builder included with Quartus II software, automates the task of adding, parameterizing, and linking intellectual property (IP) cores.
  • Altera OpenCore® Plus feature lets you evaluate a time limited MegaCore® functions for free using the Quartus II software. You can verify the functionality of a MegaCore function in your hardware quickly and easily, as well as evaluate its size and speed before making a purchase decision.
  • ARM RealView Development Suite, evaluation version 1.2, which provides a complete software development environment for creating applications for the ARM architecture.
  • Microtronix Linux operating system support for the REF-XA4 reference board.

"American Arium has ensured that the required tools are available in each stage of the Excalibur design flow with a reference board, Quartus II software, source-level debugging solutions, real-time trace module with deep trace capability, and support for operating systems" said Joe Hanson, director of marketing and applications for Excalibur Business Unit at Altera. "The Quick Start reference kit allows its customers to develop and debug their SOPC designs quickly and efficiently."

Pricing and Availability
The Excalibur Quick Start reference kit is available immediately. The kit, American Arium part number KIT-XA4, is available through November, 2002 for $9,995 as an introductory offer. This price is good for North America only. See American Arium distributors for international pricing.
