Tektronix Enables Hong Kong's First Terrestrial Broadcaster to Address Digital Video Quality Needs

8/30/2002 - Tektronix, a leading supplier of video test equipment for broadcasters and manufacturers, announced that Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) has purchased a variety of Tektronix' video test and monitoring instruments to enable their transition from analog to digital broadcasting. The Tektronix equipment will allow TVB to provide, maintain, and develop the highest quality digital video for the production and transmission of their television programs.

TVB's purchase includes multiple WFM601 SD-SDI digital video waveform monitors, which will be used to assure the integrity of standard-definition (SD) digital production as the serial digital component signals move from source to destination. For high-definition (HD) sync and test signal generation, TVB chose the TG700 multi-format signal generation platform, which is capable of configuring all the necessary reference signals for an analog, SD, or HD facility. TVB will also use the Tektronix MTS300 MPEG test system, which incorporates Emmy® award-winning technology, to monitor, test, and analyze MPEG transport streams.

"The Tektronix test and monitoring solutions were selected for their well-known reliability and for their suitability in master control and transmission applications at our new TVB City facility located in Tseung Kwan O," said Mr. John Yip, project manager (TKO Project), Engineering Division, TVB.

"To support new digital video test and monitoring requirements, Tektronix has continuously provided new solutions for our customers," said Vince Ganley, Vice President, Pacific region, Tektronix. "Our multi-format, multi-standard instruments have been widely used in different broadcast facilities around the world. Not only can these award-winning instruments meet TVB's current standards, but their proven capabilities will serve future requirements as well."

About the Products
The Tektronix WFM601 series of waveform monitors provide a complete solution for serial digital video applications. They are self-contained, half-rack wide, waveform/vector monitors for the 270 Mbps serial component operating environment.

The Tektronix TG700 family of video test signal generation products addresses the transitional and long-term sync generation and maintenance needs of video post-production and broadcast operational facilities that must support a variety of formats, standards, and transmission requirements.

The MTS300 MPEG test system, a high-performance MPEG protocol diagnostics and analysis tool used to design, verify, and characterize products or systems using MPEG-2 technology, provides comprehensive, real-time analysis and generation of MPEG-2 transport streams.
