Sun Microsystems and PeopleSoft Help Customers Increase Security and Operational Efficiencies

8/28/2002 - Sun Microsystems and PeopleSoft have pledged to take their global strategic alliance a step further with the SunTM ONE Identity Server 6.0 integration with PeopleSoftTM 8 Human Capital Management. This integration will enable customers to build and deploy an open and secure end-to-end federated identity management system controlled through a single sign-on. A proof-of-concept of the integration will be demonstrated in the Sun booth (#503) during the PeopleSoft Connect Conference this week. It will also be shown at the upcoming SunNetwork 2002 Conference in San Francisco on September 18-20.

Network identity solutions help enterprises manage and control their most vital assets - identities. This integration with Sun's end-to-end network identity solution addresses customers' needs for streamlined access and privacy and is fully compliant with the Liberty Alliance version 1.0 specification announced last July. Unlike proprietary network identity management offerings, the Sun ONE Identity Server 6.0 provides an open and comprehensive network identity management solution - including directory, policy and certificate management services - to eliminate the time, expense and headaches associated with a multi-vendor approach.

Helping to decrease IT costs further, the Sun ONE Identity Server simplifies the creation, administration and management of the authentication and authorization policies and services associated with single sign-on. PeopleSoft's integrated best-of-breed application solutions cover areas such as Human Capital Management, Customer Relationship Management, Financial Management, Supply Chain Management and the AppConnect suite of products announced this week to ease application integration.

"This integration helps enable the real time enterprise for our customers through Liberty-enabled federated identity management, allowing them to realize the efficiencies to be gained through single sign-on," said Renee Knee, general manager of strategic alliances, PeopleSoft. "As an associate member of the Liberty Alliance, we believe in an open standards approach, and Sun is clearly among the leaders in this regard."

"As a global strategic partner, PeopleSoft is the first ISV to integrate a solution based upon the Sun ONE Identity Server," said Stuart Wells, vice president of market development, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Our network identity management solution is designed to help enterprises provide secure access to their customers' Web-based resources."

Upon the general availability of the Sun ONE Identity Server 6.0 this Fall, Sun will pursue formal AppConnect certification testing with PeopleSoft for all of its applications, including solutions for human resources, financial management, customer relationship management, student administration and supply chain management.
