PMC-Sierra Announces Inverse Multiplexing Solution Interoperability with Leading Multiservice Equipment

8/27/2002 - PMC-Sierra announced the successful completion of interoperability testing between its Inverse Multiplexing over ATM (IMA) solutions and currently installed multiservice switches with companies such as Cisco and Alcatel. PMC-Sierra's IMA devices have successfully completed stringent device interoperability tests with the leading equipment manufacturers, ensuring that new communications equipment can be smoothly installed into existing networks. IMA devices, such as PMC-Sierra's PM7341 S/UNI® IMA-84, combine multiple low-cost T1 access lines into a single higher speed service to address the service bandwidth gap that exists between T1/E1 and T3/E3.

"Major telecommunications carriers demand equipment that can be immediately deployed into their existing networks in order to help preserve capital investments in the existing infrastructure," said Jeff Brown, director of strategic marketing, Multiservice Products of PMC-Sierra's Service Provider Division. "PMC-Sierra prides itself on delivering products that are completely interoperable with the large installed base of multiservice equipment. For example, our devices enable carriers to upgrade their bandwidth capacity through the use of channelized OC-48 line cards without having to overhaul their entire network infrastructure."

About PMC-Sierra's S/UNI IMA Family of Devices
The PM7341 S/UNI IMA-84 supports an industry leading 84 T1 or 63 E1 links in a single device and is optimized for high density T1/E1 applications in multiservice ATM switches, Metro-Optical Access switches and Third Generation (3G) Wireless Base Station Controllers. The PM7342 S/UNI IMA-32 and PM7343 S/UNI IMA-16 support up to 32 and 16 links, respectively, and are optimized for high density T1, E1 or G.SHDSL applications in DSL Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs), Multiservice Access Multiplexers and 3G Wireless Base Station Controllers. For applications such as Integrated Access Devices (IAD) and 3G Base Stations, the PM7340 S/UNI IMA-8 and PM7348 S/UNI IMA-4 support, respectively, up to 8 and 4 T1, E1 or xDSL links.
