8/26/2002 - Avionyx, providing full lifecycle embedded software engineering services for commercial avionics systems, is leveraging iNotion, I-Logix product lifecycle management (PLM) portal, for collaborative distributed development. Avionyx is using iNotion to manage and automate development of mission-critical and flight-critical software engineering services to numerous clients in the avionics industry. In addition to using iNotion for improved communication with clients, Avionyx is using it to manage and automate many of their internal processes in order to gain ISO and CMM certification.
With the majority of customers requiring that Avionyx meet the rigorous DO-178B software engineering standard, Avionyx must adhere to a strict process and workflow, managing every aspect of the software lifecycle, including quality assurance, planning, development, verification, configuration management and certification. Within iNotion, Avionyx is able to set up a project, define each team member’s role on the project, assign their security access rights and decide when and who needs to be notified when particular documents, problems or features are submitted, changed or approved. Team members may be internal employees or clients at remote locations.
Avionyx is able to manage and automate all problem reporting and feature requests, document version control, weekly status reporting to clients, peer and SCCB (Software Change Control Board) reviews, as well as document management and version control. iNotion manages all of these processes while making sure the right people are notified at the right times, every step of the way. Avionyx is able to accommodate reconfiguring workflow processes on a project by project basis. Both customers and their engineering teams are able to work together, from different physical locations, using email and the internet to communicate and coordinate their efforts seamlessly and in real-time.
"When we finish a project, iNotion exports all of the project artifacts to CD-ROMs for delivery to the customer and for archival," said Larry Allgood, President, Avionyx. "Using iNotion, we are able to quickly gain control of lifecycle management, thus increasing our productivity and aiding in our goal to meet ISO and CMM certification. iNotion is the best investment we have ever made."
In addition to the engineering projects, Avionyx has incorporated iNotion into their internal processes. They are now able to automate and manage internal operations by providing access privileges and workflow to employees. For example, they can post updated HR documentation, have an email circulate to the entire company and ensure that their employees have access to the latest information. "By doing it though iNotion instead of sneakernet or emails, we maintain a permanent history of all problems, managers are able to intervene and re-prioritize problems as needed, and can generate summary reports of all outstanding problems at any time," said Allgood.
