8/21/2002 - Clarent, a leading provider of IP softswitch and enterprise convergence solutions for next generation networks, entered into a strategic distributor agreement with ChinaWeal, a leading IT service provider in China. "Clarent continues to focus on partnering with industry leaders to provide the high level of support our customers have come to expect," commented Frank Lee, Clarent’s Vice President of Sales for Asia Pacific.
This partnership is expected to enable companies that deploy Clarent networks to leverage ChinaWeal’s support infrastructure, system integration capabilities and in-house software development expertise. According to the terms of the agreement, ChinaWeal’s experienced technical staff will provide 24 x 7 Tier 1 and Tier 2 support, partial Tier 3 support, on-site resources and training instructors for Clarent solutions. Customers will benefit from the company’s broad scope of system integration experience, which includes specialized expertise with the highly complex billing and subscriber management systems of local telecommunications carriers. Finally, ChinaWeal’s in-house team of more than 200 software engineers will be available to support the accelerated development of customized applications that can be integrated with the Clarent softswitch platform.
"Clarent VoIP networks have historically been among the most reliable and widely deployed in China," said Simon Meng, CEO of ChinaWeal. "Through this business partnership, ChinaWeal can offer solutions that enable our clients to reduce costs and generate new revenue opportunities. By expanding our offering to include Clarent’s industry-leading enterprise solutions and playing a pivotal role in the launch of Clarent’s Distributed Softswitch in China, we are delivering on our commitment to help our clients remain competitive and add value to their business."
ChinaWeal has purchased Clarent’s enterprise-focused NetPerformer EG gateways to connect offices in Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. In addition to providing measurable cost-savings by minimizing the bandwidth requirements of voice, data and fax applications, the deployment of Clarent’s integrated access devices will allow ChinaWeal to demonstrate the flexibility and reliability of these solutions in a real-world setting. ChinaWeal intends to build a demonstration network that integrates NetPerformer EG with Clarent’s fully distributed Edge Access (Class 5) Softswitch and PSTN Access (Class 4) Softswitch solutions, which include Clarent Command Center, Class 5 Call Manager and Class 4 Call Manager software plus Clarent BHG 1000 media gateways.
"Clarent’s agreement with ChinaWeal is an example of the type of relationship that should be a top priority among vendors focused on China," observed Jahangir Raina, director of iLocus, a London-based market research firm. "China is expected to have the second largest IT and telecoms market in the world within the next five years, and the complexity of this business and cultural environment will make partnerships with local system integrators critical."
The combination of a deep understanding of the Chinese business environment and strategic relationships with multinational leaders such as Intel, HP, Microsoft and Oracle has enabled ChinaWeal to build an impressive customer list that includes China Telecom, China Unicom, and the Data Communications Bureau of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII). ChinaWeal has been involved in groundbreaking projects such as the first video-on-demand system in China, and has established a reputation for strong customer relationships and technical expertise. The company’s work has repeatedly drawn praise from the Chinese government on the national and local levels.
"ChinaWeal is an excellent partner for Clarent," continued Clarent’s Lee. "National and regional Chinese telecommunications providers including China Telecom and China Mobile have deployed Clarent-based networks. Through the creation of this partnership, both Clarent and ChinaWeal have increased their ability to address changing customer needs as the market evolves."
