8/20/2002 - Vitesse Semiconductor's family of multi-rate CMOS transceivers and Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) devices, built with the industry’s most robust feature set, has been priced to allow networking OEMs to select the optimal solution for their designs without sacrificing performance due to cost. Prices for the CDRs start as low as $15 per unit and transceivers at $77 per unit for 1K quantities. These products may be purchased direct or through Vitesse’s North American distributor, NuHorizons, who will be featuring these products during the third quarter of 2002. Applications for these devices include 2.5Gb/s transponder and transceiver modules, SONET/SDH and DWDM line cards, and optical test and performance monitoring systems.
The family of extended multi-rate CMOS products includes six devices: the transceivers are the VSC8142, VSC8145, VSC8147, and the CDRs are VSC8221, VSC8222, and VSC8223. Using its proven technology, Vitesse designed and manufactured these SONET/SDH products to address the critical features and performance levels design engineers require. The primary SONET/SDH data rates range from STS-3/STM-1 to STS-48/STM-16 with FEC and are complemented with support for 1x and 2x Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and FDDI data rates. The devices operate on a single 2.5V power supply and have an extremely low power dissipation of 400mW (CDRs) to 700mW (transceivers). All devices exceed SONET jitter generation, tolerance and transfer specifications by wide margins and are proven to remain stable over power supply and temperature specifications.
"Vitesse’s third generation of CMOS transceivers and CDRs offer robust performance due to low power operation and wide margin to jitter specifications. The multiple data rates facilitate increased design efficiency, allowing for simpler designs with quicker turn times, thereby reducing inventory costs for network OEMs," stated Ken Jones, vice president of marketing for Vitesse’s Transport Products Division. "Vitesse is offering its customers an opportunity to design networks using the industry’s leading technology at affordable prices."
Available in commercial and industrial temperature grades, these CMOS-based products are enhanced with automatic lock to reference clock operation that can be manually enabled or disabled, LOL and LOS status indicators, as well as FIFO with automatic overflow reset. These devices provide complete system level diagnostic capabilities by offering three loopback modes: facility, equipment, and split. They can also be seamlessly incorporated into a complete system design using other Vitesse products such as OPTO analog devices (TIA, TIA/PA, and laser drivers), data processing framers and mappers, and FEC/PM devices.
