8/16/2002 - Datum's Trusted Time Division (TTD) and WetStone Technologies, Inc. announced the commercial release of a new service that provides trusted third party assurance of the authenticity of any Microsoft® Word document. Time LockTM for Microsoft Word is a subscription service developed by WetStone that enables users to quickly and easily integrate secure and auditable digital time stamps into their work. Via a software plug-in operated from the Microsoft Word toolbar, Time Lock embeds the time stamp directly into the document, thus sealing content that can be verified anytime in the future for both authenticity and time accuracy. Time Lock is delivered by WetStone's Sovereign TimeTM Division, a Root Time Authority providing a secure source of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) - the international standard for time.
Time Lock verification can be done - by anyone - via a free download available directly from the WetStone website. The successful validation of the time stamp proves that the contents of the document have not been altered since the time stamp was originally issued.
John Bernardi, President of Datum - TTD, stated, "Injecting an irrefutable time record into common business applications like MS Word makes enormous sense in the business world today. The more a company can easily substantiate its business records, the more likely they will be able to avoid some of the recent accounting debacles making headlines today."
Chet Hosmer, President and CEO of WetStone, added, "Providing an auditable time record for Microsoft Word, the best-selling word processing software in the world, and delivering it via the Internet, gives customers the ability to build integrity into their documents - quickly and easily. With Time Lock, users of desktop applications can legally prove both the authenticity and time of critical documents."
Time Lock is the latest service offering resulting from a long-standing strategic partnership between Datum - Trusted Time Division and WetStone's Sovereign Time division. Sovereign Time utilizes Trusted Time's secure time management technology to create services that ensure optimal performance and security.
