8/14/2002 - Inc magazine ranked Ramtron, a leading developer of next-generation specialty memory products, the fifth most inventive small company in the magazineís recent "Innovation 50" list. Inc qualified the list by the number of issued patents companies had amassed during the past five years. Ramtron currently holds more than 135 U.S. patents and over 72 patents worldwide covering its proprietary technologies. Among the technologies covered by Ramtronís extensive patent portfolio are FRAM memory devices that combine the high speed of DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) with the non-volatility of ROM (Read Only Memory), features that are not available in any single semiconductor memory device. The company also developed and patented a one-transistor enhanced static random access memory (SRAM) technology that achieves the same speed, four times higher density, and four times lower power than the prevailing six-transistor SRAM.
Inc magazine reports, "The August issue focused on continuously inventing organizations, companies designed expressly to churn out ideas. The companies listed are tearing up turf in many of today's riskiest and most competitive industries." Bill Staunton, Ramtron CEO commented, "Being recognized by Inc as one of the most inventive companies serves as a validation of our innovative culture at Ramtron. The company has always awarded technological creativity, which has ultimately lead to some of the most exciting new memory technologies the industry has seen in years."
