8/9/2002 - Peerless Systems, a provider of embedded imaging and networking solutions, announced a new licensing agreement with Konica Corporation for Peerless' Software Print Server (PeerlessSPS) Software Development Kit.
Under this agreement, Peerless has provided Konica with the technology to build multi-protocol print server capability and network connectivity for use in its line of multi-function products.
"Konica Corporation is a leading provider of MFP digital solutions for document creation, production and distribution," said Ron Davis, vice president, sales and field operations, Peerless Systems Corporation. "Our embedded networking technology will enhance the performance of the Peerless embedded imaging technology which Konica has already licensed from Peerless and integrated with its own technology. It will enable Konica to offer even more competitive multi-function solutions for the business office market. This technology, when combined with Konica’s own imaging architecture, will deliver a cost-effective, quality solution for business workgroups and enable easy upgrades and introduction of enhanced capabilities. With our PeerlessSPS technology, Konica will be able to support all of the printing protocols that their customers are demanding and will also allow all of Konica’s devices to efficiently connect and participate as a network citizen."
"The PeerlessSPS technology offers a complete embedded networking solution which is compatible with our design goals for our products. The packaging of this solution meets Konica’s development process and policy to utilize its own controller development center to integrate such solutions with specific market feature requirements, and to effectively incorporate such solutions with Konica’s imaging architecture" said Masatoshi Matsuzaki, General Manager, System Technology Division Office Document Company for Konica Corporation. "Licensing this technology from Peerless will help us provide the end user with feature rich connectivity solutions that will provide productivity enhancements and will allow us to scale the technology through an entire family of products."
Peerless Software Print Server ("PeerlessSPS") is a technology that allows office and home equipment original equipment manufacturers ("OEMs") to build multi-protocol print server capability and provides the base to integrate network connectivity into their products. PeerlessSPS provides support to virtually all Print Protocols. Regardless of the prevailing network operating system, PeerlessSPS lets the device participate immediately on the network. It supports a variety of network operating systems and technologies such as Novell Netware®, Novell NDPS®, Microsoft® Windows 2000 and Active Directory®, and also integrates with enterprise management consoles such as HP OpenView, IBM Tivoli® NetView®, Microsoft MMC and others. For products targeting the SOHO user, PeerlessSPS provides support for SMB, IPP, Appletalk and other common protocols. OEMs selling printers or any network-capable device such as routers, add-in cards, or stand-alone print servers can realize cost savings by leveraging the existing CPU and integrating a network interface on the device motherboard.
