8/8/2002 - Oki Electric Industry Co. and AudioCodes Ltd. agreed to form a strategic alliance to develop and market Voice-over-IP (VoIP) solutions to the Japanese telecom carrier market. The partnership combines Oki's top position in providing VoIP solutions to the Japanese market with AudioCodes' expertise in providing VoIP Codec and module gateway products worldwide. Under the agreement, Oki incorporates AudioCodes' VoIP modules into its VoIP gateway equipment, CenterStage MediaGateway KT5000, which connects carriers' core PSTN networks with the IP network seamlessly. The MediaGateway KT5000, a component of Oki's carrier-grade CenterStage multimedia communication server allows deployment of a cost-effective, high-performance solution that offers crystal clear voice quality for service providers in Japan, where VoIP services are expected to grow.
"We are pleased that Oki Electric has adopted our technology for use in their design. This product provides customers a complete media gateway in a small footprint that is already field-tested," said Lior Aldema, Vice President of Product Management at AudioCodes. "Partnering with Oki opens an opportunity for AudioCodes in the Japanese market with Japan's top VoIP vendor."
"As a front runner in the Japanese VoIP equipment market, Oki believes it is essential to keep its competitive advantages by offering high-quality solutions which meet customer requirements. For this purpose, it is one of our high priorities to have partnerships with a leading company like AudioCodes," said Kazunori Hata, President of Network Systems Company at Oki Electric. "This strategic relationship enables us to reinforce our commitment to provide service providers with superior IP gateway products with high voice quality and expandability, which is one of the most important strategies in our VoIP business."
Through its wide marketing activities, Oki will provide AudioCodes with the specific needs of Japanese service providers and features unique to the Japanese market. AudioCodes will integrate these requirements into its VoIP modules and customize them for Oki's new version of CenterStage MediaGateway KT5000, its most advanced carrier-grade IP gateway, which excels in reliability and supports various interfaces with domestic PSTN features in Japan.
KT5000 provides functions to connect the existing PSTN and the IP network. It is a key component of Oki's carrier-grade, multimedia communications server system, the CenterStage, which enables service providers to offer various services including voice, data and motion pictures in IP environments. By combining AudioCodes' module with Oki's gateway, Japanese service providers will have access to VoIP and other solutions that meet their requirements with lower cost and higher voice quality.
The Oki's CenterStage MediaGateway KT5000, based upon the strategic alliance between Oki and AudioCodes, became available in July 2002. Oki will independently market the VoIP solutions mainly to Japanese carriers.
