Embedded Provider SoftConnex to Support Conexant's Interactive TV Decoder

8/7/2002 - SoftConnex Technologies, the leading provider of USB software for the embedded market, announced the availability of its USBLink Host software for Conexant's single-chip interactive TV decoder. The combined hardware and software solution will enable broadcasters to offer a variety of USB based services to consumers, such as MP3 music downloads and digital photo viewing and printing.

"Our USB software interoperability with the CX22490 platform further expands our already significant presence in the set-top box market," said Jim Gilbert, SoftConnex's vice president of marketing and business development. "Our combined solution will enable network operators and hardware manufacturers to create advanced set-top box platforms that bring the latest interactive features to consumers."

"Working with SoftConnex will give our customers access to a leading embedded USB software developer with a highly experienced engineering team," said Eric Rayel, director, technical marketing of Conexant Systems, Inc. "Integration, porting and development services are particularly important when time-to-market is a key product development consideration."

SoftConnex's USBLink Host solution is comprised of the host controller driver layer, USB protocol layer and a class module framework. The host controller layer is responsible for driving the physical host controller, while the protocol layer enumerates USB devices and simulates a plug and play environment with the host operating system when the USB supports external devices. All USB protocols are supported, as are complex USB devices that contain multiple configurations/interfaces and alternate settings. The USBLink Host class drivers are responsible for driving each type of device, such as printers, digital still cameras and MP3 players. USBLink Host is distinguished by its comprehensive support for operating systems, such as PowerTV, VxWorks, Linux, VRTX, LynxOS, ThreadX and Nucleus.

Conexant's CX22490 offers an advanced, embedded 32-bit RISC CPU, an MPEG-2 audio/video decoder and 2D graphics performance. This combination enables consumer electronics manufacturers to build low-cost digital TV set-top boxes to support a wide range of advanced, interactive, consumer entertainment systems. In addition, the CX22490 incorporates an integrated USB host controller core compliant with the Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) standard and provides IDE multiword DMA support.
