QNX Embedded RTOS Supports Symmetric Multiprocessing for Broadcom Processors

8/7/2002 - QNX® Neutrino® real time operating system (RTOS) - the only embedded OS that can support both loosely coupled and true, tightly coupled multiprocessing - is the first commercial RTOS to support symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) on Broadcom's SiByteTM BCM1250 processors. Board support packages (BSPs) for the BCM1250 processors will ship with the QNX Networking Platform, a tailored, optimized development package for the networking and communications market.

About the Broadcom BCM1250 Processor
The BCM1250 is an intelligent on-chip multiprocessor system (CMP) that consists of two 64-bit MIPS CPU cores, each scalable from 600 MHz to 1 GHz clock speed, with a 512k L2 cache, a dual-channel DDR memory controller, and high-speed I/O interfaces. The processor relies on a 256-bit wide system bus known as ZBbus that delivers up to 100 Gbps of on-chip bus bandwidth and maintains complete data and I/O coherence throughout the system. The result is a symmetric, coherent multi-processor (SCMP) platform that offers very high packet-processing performance at low power with the large memory and I/O bandwidth required to manipulate and move network data at maximum efficiency and speed. The BCM1250 complies with the standard MIPS64 Instruction Set Architecture (ISA).
