8/2/2002 - Xora, the leading provider of wireless, voice and alert extensions to enterprise applications, and PointBase, the leader in JavaTM database technology for managing and synchronizing enterprise data among servers, mobile and pervasive computing devices, have formed a partnership to provide an integrated solution that will give database application capabilities to Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2METM) devices. Complex enterprise back-office applications, such as SAP, Siebel and Clarify, can now be deployed on offline J2ME devices.
The pairing of Xora’s wireless product suite and PointBase’s Micro RDBMS (relational database management systems) technology, will empower occasionally connected mobile field and sales personnel with self-service access to enterprise applications and allow companies to achieve breakthrough improvements in productivity and deliver next-generation customer service. This solution lets field and sales workers seamlessly access applications as they move from areas with wireless coverage to wireless 'dead zones.' The Xora solution automatically detects coverage and synchronizes data with the back-end enterprise application.
"Xora and PointBase have meticulously researched the needs of the mobile worker and have developed exciting wireless technologies to extend back-office enterprise data out to mobile computing devices," said Bruce Scott, president and CEO of PointBase. "Integrating PointBase Micro with Xora’s wireless product suite enables software developers to create truly mobile applications that can access enterprise data anywhere, anytime."
"PointBase’s small-footprint, Java-based data management products are able to deliver comprehensive J2ME solutions for a wide range of Xora’s pre-built enterprise connectors for leading applications such as Siebel, Oracle, SAP, i2 and Clarify. This alliance will enable us to provide robust J2ME application offerings in enterprise and mobile wireless environments," said Peter Tsou, vice president of business development and alliances for Xora. "We want to provide our customers with a complete optimal platform to extend enterprise applications to a mobile workforce, both for real-time and offline use," added Tsou.
