Equator, HIKVISION Provide Video Security Solutions for PC-based DVRs

8/2/2002 - The industry’s first high-performance, two-channel JVT/H.26L compliant video security solution based on Equator's high-performance MAP-CATM chip is available. Equator’s MAP-CA chips are incorporated in HIKVISION’s DS-4001H, DS-4002H and DS-4004H compression cards in the People’s Republic of China. Equator Technologies Inc. is a leading provider of high-performance, programmable and power-efficient system-on-a-chip processors for video streaming and image processing applications. Hangzhou HIKVISION Digital Technology Co. Ltd. is a company developing core technology for video and audio coding/decoding.

HIKVISION’s DS-4000H series of compression cards delivers two channels of H.26L compliant video to displays as well as hard disk drives for PC-based digital video recorders (DVRs). H.26L encoding allows storage of four times as much data compared to MPEG-1, while maintaining better video quality when viewed on displays. This offers manufacturers a more cost-effective solution and enables greater DVR market penetration.

"We are helping HIKVISION deliver the industry’s first two-channel compression card capable of encoding and decoding on a single processor," said John O’Donnell, CTO of Equator. "Equator’s MAP-CA chip provides significantly improved performance, enabling HIKVISION to reduce by half the number of chips per channel, thus improving design flexibility and price performance. With the addition of China’s leading supplier of video capture cards, Equator is making significant inroads in the Chinese video security and surveillance market."

"Equator's chips provide extremely high performance at low bit rates, allowing us to deliver the best video security solution in the Chinese market today," said Hu Yangzhong, managing director of HIKVISION. "More channels on a single chip allows our customers to store more video on a hard disk drive, which provides us with a cost-effective solution that is very attractive to DVR manufacturers."
