7/22/2002 - Quantum3D™, Inc., a leading provider of open architecture realtime 3D visual computing solutions for the Visual Simulation and Training (VST) and Embedded Visual Computing (EVC) markets, and SBS Technologies® (Nasdaq: SBSE), a leading supplier of embedded computing systems and subsystems for commercial and government markets, announced today at the Farnborough Air Show that the two companies have entered into a comprehensive, OEM and collaborative development agreement for Quantum3D's Sentiris™ PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC). SBS Technologies will be demonstrating Sentiris at Farnborough International this week in their stand, No. C01 in Hall 4.
Quantum3D's Sentiris is the first IEEE P1383.1 compliant PMC that brings the power of NVIDIA® Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) technology to Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) EVC applications. Based on NVIDIA's Quadro4® embedded GPU, Sentiris delivers the high-performance, low-power consumption and heat dissipation, superior image quality, advanced video I/O capability and unique integration features that are essential for mission-critical embedded visual computing applications. Sentiris is compatible with both PowerPC™ and Intel® architecture embedded platforms, and supports Microsoft® Windows®, Linux® and Wind River Systems™ VxWorks® realtime operating systems. Available in a range of configurations and ruggedization levels, including conduction cooled models available from SBS Technologies, Sentiris is optimized to meet the demanding mission requirements of avionics, vetronics, and embedded training applications while delivering the cost savings, technology insertion and open architecture benefits that derive from true COTS technologies.
"With its underlying NVIDIA technology, Quantum3D's Sentiris is the first PMC that delivers the performance, image quality and capabilities that next generation embedded graphics applications require," said Clarence Peckham, President of SBS Technologies' Commercial and Government Group. "Quantum3D has done an outstanding job of engineering the convection cooled models, and SBS is pleased to be collaborating with Quantum3D to bring to market conduction cooled variants of the product family."
Under the terms of the agreement, SBS will receive a worldwide exclusive license to develop, manufacture and market conduction cooled derivatives of the Quantum3D Sentiris 4110 PMC family as a complementary product to SBS' award-winning family of PowerPC and Intel-based CompactPCI or VME conduction cooled Single Board Computers (SBCs) and complete system products. In addition, SBS will also sell the Sentiris derivative products as a standalone module that will enable commercial and military system integrators and government customers to upgrade legacy conduction cooled systems equipped with PMC-compatible SBCs. For air-cooled environments, SBS will also resell Quantum3D's conduction cooled Sentiris models for sale in standalone, bundle and system level applications. As part of the agreement, Quantum3D will resell select SBS convection and conduction cooled single board computer and related products into embedded training and embedded graphics applications.
"SBS is a recognized leader in conduction cooled technologies, and has a great reputation and solid position in the extended environment marketplace," said Ross Q. Smith, co-founder and vice president of business development and marketing for Quantum3D. "Given SBS' engineering and design capabilities, coupled with the widespread acceptance of SBS conduction cooled Intel and PowerPC based SBCs and systems, it made perfect sense to work with them on the development and sale of the conduction cooled Sentiris PMC."
Pricing and Availability
Convection cooled Sentiris models, optimized for rugged commercial and industrial applications, start at $5,999 (international MSRP) and are available today directly from Quantum3D, its distributors and select OEMs, including SBS Technologies. Conduction cooled models, designed for mil-std and extended environment deployments, will be available beginning in Q4, 2002.
About Sentiris PMC
Quantum3D's Sentiris is the first PMC that brings the power of NVIDIA GPU technology to COTS embedded visual computing applications. Sentiris' underlying Quadro4 embedded graphics technology is the most powerful embedded graphics processor ever developed, delivering higher performance and better image quality than any PMC available in the market today. Equipped with a 128-bit wide interface to 64MB of high-performance frame buffer/texture memory, and with support for 32-bit PCI 66 or 33 MHz busses, Sentiris is capable of delivering over 2.6 million anti-aliased lines per second, over 3.4 million triangles per second and over 400 trilinear filtered megapixels/sec, which surpasses competitive PMCs based on 3DLabs® Permedia3™ technology by over 500%.
Designed for open architecture applications, Sentiris supports OpenGL® 1.2 under both Intel IA32® and PowerPC architecture systems under Microsoft Windows (IA32 only), Linux and VxWorks environments. Sentiris is compliant with IEEE P1381.1 and is compatible with VME, CompactPCI, PC-104+, and other single board computers equipped with IEEE P1381.1 compliant PMC connectors. For sensor, camera and other advanced video functions, Sentiris also includes advanced video-in and video-out functionality and supports color space conversion, scaling and overlays for NTSC, PAL, S-Video and RS-170A formats Sentiris exploits the NVIDIA PowerMizer™ capability of the Quadro4 embedded GPU to deliver unsurpassed graphics performance with low power consumption and thermal dissipation. Sentiris also provides dual, independent digital and analog outputs-with 32-bit color and Z-buffering.
