7/18/2002 - Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has commenced sales of its Pocket LOOX palm-sized personal digital assistant (PDA) in the Japanese market, with general availability from August 2, 2002 (*1). The sleek, 175g Pocket LOOX has built-in BluetoothTM wireless communications capability, enabling on-the-go Internet access via Bluetooth-equipped PDC or PHS mobile phones. Moreover, when linked to personal computers equipped with a Bluetooth USB adaptor (*2), it can be used in the office or at home for wireless data exchange, checking e-mail, surfing the Web and various other business and entertainment purposes.
Featuring a 400 MHz Intel® PXA250 Application Processor and running on Microsoft® Pocket PC 2002 Software, including Pocket Outlook, Pocket Word and Pocket Excel, Fujitsu's Pocket LOOX offers excellent performance, convenience and usability. It comes bundled with a wide array of software ideally suited to active mobile users, from electronic maps and train transfer guides to tools that enable Internet-based search, communication, personal information management, and entertainment access any time and anywhere.
In addition to its appeal for individual consumers, Pocket LOOX adds another dimension to Fujitsu's mobility solutions for corporate customers, combining the portability of a wireless phone with the functionality of a laptop computer. For example, when integrated with location positioning technology and customer information systems, Pocket LOOX can be used to optimize dispatching of route sales and maintenance people, thereby contributing to increased efficiency and customer satisfaction. Salespeople using Pocket LOOX when out of the office or on sales calls at customers' premises can quickly collect information and write up orders, helping them to avoid missed opportunities and capitalize on sales opportunities. Moreover, on-the-go groupware applications and e-mail functionality make information sharing possible any time and anywhere, helping to speed decision making.
