7/18/2002 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that it will supply Mindspeed Technologies, the Internet infrastructure business of Conexant Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CNXT), with two more 93000 SOC Series test systems to help accelerate delivery of Mindspeed's broad range of networking solutions. Mindspeed will utilize the 93000 platforms at multiple sites to test products ranging from DS3/E3 solutions to high-speed crosspoint switches and voice-over-packet processors.
The 93000 platform's proven ability to test highly integrated products has enabled Mindspeed to decrease its development times, thereby improving its time to market. The platform's high parallel pin-count addresses Mindspeed's key test requirements, including achieving full test coverage by meeting cost-of-test challenges, and testing high-speed SerDes cells together with other functions on the chip.
"Mindspeed selected additional 93000 testers because of their ability to test our broad range of complex, high-speed devices, from design verification to production test," said Christopher Wilson, Mindspeed's director of worldwide test operations. "Using the 93000 platform's NP-models allows us to reduce test times by up to 90 percent, and to test parameters that weren't possible with previous-generation ATE. Both of those advantages have helped lower our cost of test."
"The fact that Mindspeed has elected to put the Agilent 93000 tester in place at multiple sites around the world is a testament to the platform's effectiveness," said Tom Newsom, vice president and general manager of Agilent's SOC Business Unit. "Mindspeed's customers are technical leaders for whom time to market is critical in securing profit margins. The 93000's scalable family of products maximizes test coverage and minimizes cost for Mindspeed. Mindspeed's use of the Agilent 93000 SOC platform is another example of how our platform meets the needs of the high-speed communications market."
With this purchase, Mindspeed will have 93000 testers in four development sites. Furthermore, Mindspeed has invested in the largest NP model configuration in the world. The NP models will provide quality engineering and production tests, including functional and parametric measurements such as jitter and rise/fall time, at speeds up to 2.5 Gbps.
Ever-increasing performance requirements, integration of multiple IP cores onto a single chip, diminishing geometries and the demand for high-integrity signals in high-speed communication devices have driven the need for reliable, cost-effective test methods and equipment. Those criteria led Mindspeed to adopt the NP models. To meet requirements beyond the NP models, Mindspeed and Agilent have worked closely to develop XP3G, Agilent's newest high-speed digital testing solution for the 93000. That collaboration enabled greater test accuracy and coverage.
Mindspeed has acquired multiple copies of Agilent's XP3G solution, which was developed through collaboration between both companies. Agilent and Mindspeed have agreed to collaborate again with the next-generation XP product, XP10G.
