Analogic Corporation Receives Additional Orders for Its EXplosive Assessment Computed Tomography (EXACT) Systems

7/17/2002 - Bernard M. Gordon, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Analogic Corporation (NASDAQ: ALOG), announced today that the Company has received additional orders for its EXplosive Assessment Computed Tomography (EXACT™) Systems from L-3 Communication’s Security and Detection Systems division. The EXACT is the “heart” of L-3’s eXaminer 3DX™ 6000, a certified Explosive Detection System (EDS) that is being purchased by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to be installed at major airports across the U.S.

Certified explosive detection systems are being ordered incrementally, as funds are appropriated by Congress and airport installation plans are developed. L-3 has ordered 80 additional units to be manufactured by Analogic, drawing on the 200 kits of long-lead-time components previously ordered as announced, and has ordered an additional 142 component kits for systems to be delivered later in the year.

Mr. Gordon said, “These orders from L-3 for additional units and long-lead-time parts relate to a total of 442 systems scheduled for delivery by the end of the calendar year. That total, which includes the 100 systems previously ordered, is part of the blanket order placed by L-3 for up to 1000 systems announced in April.”

Gordon added, “This order increases by 80% the number of units now firmly scheduled for delivery. Our customer, L-3 Communications, and its customer, the TSA, have now accounted for 44% of the blanket purchase order. We anticipate additional quantities will be released against this blanket purchase order as installation plans are finalized and funds are made available in the future.”
