7/16/2002 - In a lawsuit filed today, Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM) alleges that solid-state RF tuner products made by Texas-based Microtune, Inc. (Nasdaq: TUNE) infringe a recently issued Broadcom patent, United States Patent No. 6,377,315, entitled “System And Method For Providing A Low Power Receiver Design”. The patent was issued to Broadcom on April 23, 2002 and is based on a patent application filed in 1999.
Broadcom, an early pioneer in the development of tuner-on-a-chip technology, believes that Microtune’s core solid-state tuner product line infringes Broadcom’s intellectual property. Broadcom has invested significantly, in dollars and through its engineers’ hard work, to develop its technology and to build its IP portfolio, which now includes 112 issued U.S. patents and over 1,000 additional U.S. patent applications.
In the lawsuit, Broadcom seeks monetary damages for infringement as well as a permanent injunction barring manufacture and sale of Microtune’s core suite of RF tuner chips, including its MT2030, MT2032, MT2040, MT2050 and MT2111 tuner products, which Broadcom alleges infringe the patent.
Broadcom filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
