Versatel Networks Inc. Unveils General Availability (GA) of Their Service Creation Switch (SCS) Products For The North American Market

7/15/2002 - Versatel Networks, Inc., a developer, designer and marketer of fault tolerant Service Creation Switches (SCS), today announced General Availability (GA) of Release 4.0 of its SCS products for the North American market place. According to Mr. Ray Vilis, VP of Engineering, "the Company's current product release 4.0 allows for delivery of a completely open, server based, carrier-grade platform that addresses feature/functionality requirements of North American Service Providers."

The overall concept of the Company's SCS is premised upon the Versatel Switch Operating System (VSOS), a very powerful and elaborate operating system (call control), that allows one or more applications to control the platform and provide the internal functions necessary for its operation. It provides both large and small customers with a very cost-effective and scalable solution that operates both within a Unix / Solaris environment, as well as, within a Windows NT domain. Further, the SCS features an open concept that leverages industry development - by integrating leading edge technologies coming from "off the shelf" servers and standard cPCI hardware solutions. Mr. Daniel Biage, CTO and the key architect of the SCS platform is a very strong advocate of the open platform concept. According to Mr. Biage, "An open platform allows us to leverage our core expertise by selectively and continuously assimilating the latest in computer and voice processing technologies. This will allow us to stay ahead of customer requirements, for both legacy and IP infrastructures, in terms of required functionality, viable economics and fast time to market expectations. This open concept is the basis of our powerful carrier grade platform."

The Company's current Product Release 4.0 now supports:

  • 16 T1/E1 Trunk Card Interfaces,
  • PRI/CAS/ISDN,
  • T1/E1 Clear Channel signaling
  • Stated capacity of 10 K BHCC per T1/E1 card (peak load capacity in excess of 15 K BHCC)
  • Online provisioning capability
  • New OAM&P API (operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning) with log file and diagnostic capability
  • - VSOS Message tracing

Incremental software loads to Release 4.0 will also include additional product enhancements such as Integrated 3rd Party Media Connectivity, as well as, ANSI SS7.

Mr. Vilis goes on to indicate that the SCS Product Release 5.0 will follow quickly on the heels of Release 4.0 in the September 2002 timeframe. According to Mr. Vilis, "This particular product release will allow the Company to quickly extend its current product reach beyond the North American market and into the International market place. This will include additional support of International Carrier Market requirements, such as; EuroISDN and ITU C7."

On June 4, 2002, Versatel Networks announced that it had arranged for a further $7.5 million dollars in financing. Lead funding, for that round of financing, was provided by the Solidarity Fund QFL, whose Vice President -Technology Investment, Mr. Daniel Laporte, stated, "We look for solid investments in Small/Medium Enterprises that are well positioned to technologically compete both on a North American and International basis."
