Virtual Switching Consultancy Ltd. Selects NMS Communications' Platform for its Affordable, Full-Featured Switching Solution for Global Carriers

7/12/2002 - Through its Asia Pacific channel partner S.A.S. Group, NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), the leading supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, is providing the system building blocks for Virtual Switching Consultancy (VSC) Ltd.'s switching platform that allows smaller international carriers to compete with the largest carriers in long-distance services. VSC's VS 2000 integrated all-in-one gateway switching solution supports services such as prepaid calling, tandem switching, intelligent call routing, international call transfer, and many others. The first carriers to benefit are Shinetown Telecommunication Ltd., IPGO Ltd., Carriernet Corporation Ltd., and IDT Network (Asia) Ltd.

The VS 2000 offers better price/performance than the competition, and the scalability and flexibility necessary for carriers worldwide to quickly enter into or expand their international long-distance service offerings at an affordable price. These benefits are derived in part from NMS' Convergence Generation™ (CG) 6100C and TX™ 3220C system building blocks. The CG 6100C provides high-density digital trunk interfaces and digital signal processing (DSP) resources for signaling and echo cancellation on a CompactPCI® (cPCI) board. The high density of trunks saves valuable cPCI slots in the large, high-availability environments of carrier-class system applications. Also on a cPCI board, NMS' TX 3220C supports SS7 call control applications. SS7 is often used as the signaling protocol for voice over IP gateway applications, wireless infrastructure, and enhanced services, including voice and fax messaging, one-number/follow-me, and pre-paid services.

"NMS offered the best price/performance of any switching platform," said Ivan Wong, Director of Virtual Switching Consultancy Ltd. "With NMS' platforms as the foundation, we were able to create the scalable, feature-rich VS 2000 switching solution at a cost that just can't be beat."

"VSC's solution allows any size carrier to play in the international long-distance market. The VS 2000 literally opens doors to new revenue opportunities for carriers at any stage in the game. We're pleased to be part of such an important development, and to once again demonstrate that our products are built to help our customers get to market quickly with new enhanced services," said Critz Chan, vice president and general manager of NMS Asia.
