OSE Systems and Altera Team Up to Deliver High-Availability Solutions

7/10/2002 - Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) and OSE Systems, Inc. today announced the availability of the OSE real-time operating system (RTOS) for Altera’s Excalibur™ embedded processor solutions. This package will add significant value for customers building high-availability communications and safety critical systems with OSE’s RTOS and Altera’s Excalibur embedded processor solutions. Altera customers now have access to an additional RTOS designed for use with Excalibur devices, which enable true system-on-a–programmable-chip (SOPC) designs.

Altera’s Excalibur devices, with an ARM9-based processor subsystem integrated with a FPGA fabric, enable customers to take advantage of a very close integration between OSE’s high-availability RTOS and very high-performance custom logic for SOPC designs. With Altera and OSE Systems, customers can design platforms for next-generation network infrastructures and mission-critical applications with 99.999 percent availability, also known as high-availability.

“OSE’s board support package (BSP) for the Excalibur EPXA10 development board from Altera makes it possible to integrate a high-performance data-path fabric while running a robust operating system in critical communications applications within the control plane,” said Anders Flodin, director of strategic alliances at OSE. “Altera customers can now exploit the advantages of high reliability and high-availability associated with the OSE operating system.”

The BSP from OSE runs on Altera’s EPXA10 Development Kit. In addition to the functions normally provided in an OSE BSP, OSE for Excalibur includes support for FPGA loading and support for the Ethernet MAC MegaCore. The EXPA10 Development Kit comes complete with an EPXA10 development board and a full software suite, including SOPC Builder for system generation of hardware and software, the Excalibur Solutions Pack with utilities and demo/evaluation software and documentation.
