7/9/2002 - Marimba, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRBA), the Software Change-Management Company, today announced that Herman Miller UK, the award-wining furniture manufacturer, is implementing Marimba’s Desktop/Mobile Management products globally, following a successful software pilot at its US headquarters. Marimba’s Desktop/Mobile Management products will be deployed throughout Herman Miller UK to automate the distribution and installation of software; manage existing applications for desktop, laptop and mobile users; and collect hardware and software inventory. These management capabilities will help Herman Miller UK to reduce IT administrative costs.
Herman Miller’s decision to select Marimba’s software was prompted by its growing mobile work force, which makes performing software upgrades increasingly challenging, both technically and geographically.
Marimba automates the software distribution process, so upgrades simultaneously reach desktop and mobile users transparently and unobtrusively. Further benefits include the ability to respond to software virus attacks through rapid and streamlined distribution of anti-virus updates; reduced desktop management time through centralized software control, and accurate inventory scanning of Herman Miller’s entire enterprise.
Mike Knight, IT director at Herman Miller UK comments, “Having piloted Marimba’s software in the United States, we were aware of its benefits in terms of cost savings related to software management and IT administration required to support our European users. We believe Marimba will bring us software consistency across our enterprise, which has proved problematic in the past due to the growing contingency of mobile users. Currently, we are upgrading all our users to Windows 2000 and Marimba will allow us to ‘drip-feed’ the software over the network quickly and efficiency so that it reaches all our users – mobile and desktop, without them even knowing.”
Knight continued, “Marimba’s technology will also perform ongoing maintenance of our existing software and automatically repair any application errors. This self-healing environment will dramatically reduce our help desk queries and administration time.”
Accurate software inventory is also a key requirement for Herman Miller UK. Marimba’s Desktop/Mobile Management products will enable Herman Miller UK to conduct regular inventory collections, without disturbing users or consuming a large amount of bandwidth.
Adrian Rayner, Marimba’s European vice president comments, “We are very pleased that Herman Miller is implementing our software on a global basis following its successful trial. Our open, standards-based architecture will enable our solution to be easily and quickly integrated throughout Herman Miller’s enterprise and deliver software consistency for desktop and mobile users, at greatly reduced administrative costs.”
