7/2/2002 - VeriFone Inc., the worldwide leader in electronic payment systems, has certified three scanners from Intermec Technologies Corp. for use with the VeriFone Ruby SuperSystem. The scanners, the MaxiScanTM 2220 and 2210 and the ScanPlusTM 1800 Vista, are approved as VeriFone Ruby Ready Scanners.
The VeriFone Ruby SuperSystem combines card processing, fuel dispensing, dispenser card reader (DCR) control, and ECR functions for petroleum/convenience-store operations. The Ruby software provides its customers universality as it interfaces with a variety of peripherals including more than 50 back-office software systems and 30 major oil and generic hosts. Customers can easily add scanning capabilities by using a VeriFone-certified, Ruby-ready scanner.
"Our primary goal with Ruby is to provide our customers with an easy-to-use system that delivers the flexibility and choice they need," said Rob Randelman, VeriFone director of petroleum marketing. "Adding Intermec products to the list of Ruby-ready scanners means our customers can now add scanning capabilities from a leader in data capture scanners."
Intermec's MaxiScan 2210 fixed station and 2220 free-standing models are compact, omni-directional, fixed laser scanners with a dense 20-line scan pattern for quick, first-time reading and an adjustable depth of field to avoid mis-scans. The scan pattern is optimized for the squarer codes used in retail, such as EAN/UPC. The 2220's size, plus versatile mounting kit that includes mounting points and bracket for fixing as well as sticky-pads, allow it to be placed in crowded retail environments.
The ScanPlus 1800 Vista handheld scanner is lightweight and ergonomically designed with reliable, high-performance scanning of even marginal quality linear bar codes and PDF417 symbols. Its linear imaging engine features a sharp, brightly illuminated scan line for accurate scanner positioning and a fast scan rate (up to 400 scans per second) for quick and accurate decoding of bar codes.
"The combination of Ruby software and Intermec scanners gives convenience store owners a simple plug-and-play way to integrate scanning into their point-of-sale systems," said Intermec Director Dan Bodnar. "Because they're Ruby-ready, the MaxiScan 2220 and 2210 and ScanPlus 1800 Vista require no set up and very little training for employees. It's the ideal solution for busy store owners."
