Rowe Engineering Selects Altera Stratix Devices for New FPGA Development Boards

7/2/2002 - Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced that Rowe Engineering has selected the new Stratix™ devices for their new Q5 series of FPGA development boards. The new Q5 boards, designed for customers in communications and optical system design, provide more logic elements and LVDS I/O ports than the Q4 series. The board leverages the high-speed LVDS channels in Stratix allowing for 840 megabits per second (Mbps) transfer rate on a multitude of inputs.

Stratix devices are specifically designed to meet the needs of demanding designs by incorporating significant advances in memory design, processing power, and I/O flexibility. The Q5 board supports dual-independent clocking rate generation for systems designed for synchronization experiments. A single Q5 board can implement both sides of a transceiver with separate clocking for the transmitters and receivers.

One of the new design applications for Rowe's Q5 Stratix device-based boards will be implementation of a 50 megabits per second (Mbps) symmetrical DSL modem PHY in VHDL. In addition to the Q5 board, Rowe will market the sale of the intellectual property (IP) and source VHDL that accompanies the algorithms used to implement the DSL transceiver.
