7/1/2002 - Oak Technology, Inc, (Nasdaq: OAKT) a leading provider of embedded solutions for optical-storage and digital-imaging markets, today announced that its Postscript 3-compatible language interpreter, IPS/PS3, has been designed into Hewlett-Packard's new Color LaserJet 4600 series as well as the Business Inkjet 2600 series and Business Inkjet 2280 series. The Business Inkjet 2600 model also features Oak's PCL 5C Windows PrinterDriver™. Oak's long-term partnership with Hewlett-Packard and these product deployments have significantly contributed to Oak's penetration into these new market segments and extended its position in the color printer market.
Oak's industry-leading IPS/PS3 interpreter deployed in HP's new family of printers is based on Oak's Integrated Print System™, a dynamic, embedded, scalable architecture providing peripheral manufacturers with highly integrated, modular controller and connectivity software for powering printers and multifunction peripherals. Oak's IPS/PS3 PostScript 3-compatible interpreter offers enhanced image processing and efficient performance, enabling OEMs to develop high-quality color peripherals. Oak's PCL 5C Windows PrinterDrivers support compatible interpreters by offering flexible, customizable, full-featured technology.
"HP is striving to meet the diverse demands for professionally connected color printers with a dual emulation language strategy, and Oak is the leading provider of both PostScript and PCL printing technology," said Simon Dolan, senior vice president and general manager, Oak Technology Imaging Group. "Ultimately, the networking and color printing needs of various evolving business markets are met."
Hewlett-Packard's Color LaserJet 4600 network laser printer is designed to offer performance, flexibility, ease-of-use, and professional output. It is based on a 400-MHz processor and standard memory configurations that are expandable to 416 MB. Capable of managing extremely complex color files the Color LaserJet 4600 prints at a maximum of 17 pages-per-minute (ppm) for both color and black and white documents. The device's print languages (including the PostScript 3 emulation), firmware and hardware enhancements also further enhance performance and color accuracy.
The HP Business Inkjet 2600 is targeted at smaller businesses, and features high-quality color printing at a low cost-per-page while still providing high-performance and wide-format color printing for office workgroups. It prints color at 6ppm, and black and white at 8 ppm in normal mode. In network fast mode, the printer is capable of 11 ppm color and 15 ppm black and white, and can print on various media up to 13 x 19. The HP Business Inkjet 2280 printer produces high-quality color documents at speeds of 7.5 ppm normal mode and 14 ppm in fast mode. It also accommodates a wide variety of business documents at a low cost-per-page. Both printers feature the option of being shared across a network or Internet-enabled for printing e-services and remote management.
