7/1/2002 - Standard Microsystems Corporation (Nasdaq: SMSC) announced today that Accelent Systems Inc. has selected SMSCís LAN91C111 10/100 non-PCI Ethernet device to be incorporated in its Integrated Development Platform (IDP) based on the Intel PXA250 applications processor with XScale technology.
The LAN91C111 integrates the IEEE 802.3-compliant Fast Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC), the 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Physical Layer (PHY) and transmit and receive buffer memory (SRAM) into a single device to deliver full functionality in a high performance compact design, reducing production cost and board space. It is designed to facilitate the implementation of a third generation of Fast Ethernet connectivity solutions for embedded applications.
In addition to these features, Accelent chose SMSCís LAN91C111 Ethernet controller because of its direct interface with embedded processors, eliminating the need to use a PCI bus interface.
Accelentís IDP platform for the Intel PXA250 applications processor was developed to speed the embedded device development cycle. Accelent combined the high performance and power efficiencies of the Intel XScale microarchitecture found in the PXA250 with the functionality and flexibility of Accelent's software architecture. Together, they provide a feature rich, cost-effective development platform for embedded device application and product development.
