Gart Sports Company Selects Marimba to Automate Desktop Management and Reduce Administrative Costs

(Nasdaq: MRBA), the Software Change-Management Company, announced that Gart Sports Company has selected Marimba’s Desktop/Mobile Management products to provide centralized application and content management across its enterprise. Gart Sports will also be using Marimba’s advanced Web-based reporting capabilities to obtain comprehensive hardware and software inventory and up-to-the-minute status reports on software deployments. The deployment of Marimba’s Desktop/Mobile Management products will automate Gart Sports’ IT infrastructure and help to reduce administrative costs.

Marimba’s Desktop/Mobile Management products will allow Gart Sports, the nation’s second largest publicly traded, full-line sporting goods retailer, to centrally manage and maintain applications on employee systems. “We looked at several vendors and Marimba provided the best proven solution that met our needs for centrally managing software on desktop and laptop systems across our enterprise,” said June Shirai, senior vice president and CIO of Gart Sports Company. “Marimba’s ease of use, ease of integration and open-standards approach was key in our decision making process.”

Shirai added, “Marimba’s software allows us to perform all of our application management tasks from a central site, which reduces our administrative costs and improves our quality of service.”

Powerful Web-based Reporting
Marimba’s Web-centric architecture takes full advantage of an open, standards-based architecture to provide IT departments with the ability to manage applications across the extended enterprise. For Gart Sports this includes local users, remote store locations, mobile employees, and business partners via HTTP means of communication.

Marimba’s new Web-based reporting tool – Report Center – provides comprehensive inventory for hardware, software, and systems configurations. The tool also provides near real-time status on software deployments, software update progress, license compliance, and Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP migrations.

Gart Sports will use Marimba’s Report Center to automate the application delivery and update process for all devices at its the corporate headquarters as well as in individual store locations. Report Center gives systems administrators a set of pre-defined, browser-based reports that can automatically correlate log data with inventory data from desktops, laptops, and servers located throughout the Gart Sports distributed enterprise. These reports will provide Gart Sports’ systems administrators with powerful troubleshooting and analysis capabilities by identifying in near real-time, which deployments have failed and why they have failed for a specific set of machines, users and/or applications. Using Report Center to generate reports and analysis, administrators can quickly determine and respond to problems that arise, which helps to reduce IT administrative support costs.
